NEED ADVICE:
which hd to get 160 or 200, what are the performance advantages.

Youd probably see little difference in the slower drive if you dont use it to author movies or music, which often need the fastest drives available. for my purposes, for example, a 4200RPM 200GB HD would be perfect for me because i keep lots of movies on my macbook, and the drive is still fast enough so i can watch movies without any issues. the bootup time may potentially be slower, but im sure its marginal.

i on the other hand, prefer speed, and dont have much to store on the road, id go with the 160gb 5400rpm

My local store has them in, so I'm going to check them out.

I had a TiBook and do professional video and photo work on my tower and really don't need the MBPro. I mainly use laptop for email and photo editing on the road.

I would prefer the matte screen but, with my educator discount, I'll save a good chunk of change if I get the MBook and swallow my ego. I have to see how I like the keyboard.

every one that i know that has used my macbook or any macbook theyve come across are basically black and white: they either love the keyboard or they hate it. i personally think its such a fantastic design, and has a much more solid feel than any other keyboard ive ever seen on a laptop. the only thing the pro has keyboard-wise over the MB is the backlight. without it, the macbook would be the real star.

i like the keys, but a lot of people prefer the curvature on conventional keyboards, like the MBP

Meh...the Core 2 Dup isnt much of an upgrade...most benchmarks seem to say about 10-15% faster, and thats, what, a few seconds at the most? I'd have my MacBook Core Duo with 2GB RAM than a Core 2 Duo MacBook with only 1GB. 64 bit is moot because it cal still "only" take 2GB RAM. Bigger HDs, well, I chose the 100GB option for a reason ;) .
I'd much rather have the MacBook that I have (1.83 Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 100GB HD) and got it when I did than have to wait for a marginal speed boost.

someones just bitter:p
jk, obviously ur machine does what u need it to, and thats all that matters. the point is that people buying now are happy they're buying something fresh...regardless of the fact that intel has already built and designed chipsets for 8-10 generations ahead of this one

least its only £20 extra for black, (after you put a 120gb on the white)

which aint to bad,

Hmmm.. now i am strongly thinking about a blackbook, was gonna get a 17" imac, but now hmmm..... the blackbook seems good, exact same specs just the intergrated graphics, and 40gb less space,

but the midrange whitebook seems even better for £80 more than the imac you get the same stuff, just half the hard drive space and again intergrated graphics,,

hmm i dont know what to do:confused:

That, or you could have a Macbook Core 2 with 2GB RAM instead...

Stop being bitter and just enjoy your mac already

Is this Conroe o Merom?

Thanks.
Would be Merom, Conroe is the desktop version of the Core 2 architecture (along with Allendale), Merom is the mobile, Conroe XE is the eXtreme Edition.

New Meroms (with faster FSBs) will be released around April 2007, part of Santa Rosa.

If you're doing multimedia work the 200 would be a killer 'cause it is
only a 4200RPM drive. IMHO the 5400RPM drives aren't fast enough.

i ask because when the MBP's came out with this option i read that when the drives are this high in capacity the speed of a 200gb 4200 vs a 120 7200 is about the same in performance

Nope, I just don't see the point of "I'm waiting for Merom!" threads and waiting for months just for a 10% speed increase!

And wait a few months for a 10% speed increse?

just close ur eyes and pick one that u like. in the end, ull be happy :). id go portable, just for versitilities sake.

i agree, thats just silly, unless u kno the tech is right around the corner, and u can afford to wait. but if one needs it right away, that 10% isnt important at all. And if 10% is still unimportant, the refurbished core duos are really cheap

Yeah, the value of notebook dropped about $400. :D But I'm happy with my notebook for the past 2 months, instead of waiting for the update.

No graphics update?
Screw this, I want an MBP.
If they can't come up with a decent graphics card with its own memory, i won't be buying one. Still bugs me that I would have to sacrifice a 20" Dell just to get an MBP.

I knew the tech was coming and I new it would be faster. But I dont care. Why you ask? Because my Mac does everything I need it too and more (infact I took it to school today and showed off the voice control thing-but there was too much background noise in the libary for it to work properly :( ). Its plenty fast, and with Leopard it can only get faster.

Oh no. I physically wouldn't care less, since I never plan to sell.

Really? (or maybe O RLY?) Where exactly did you read that?

Very nice, but Intel GMA950? I'm sure that's the model used in my old P4 Intel motherboard. How decrepit. But C2D? Very very fast. Can't complain about dual core 64bit CPUs.

apple doesnt want to include a graphics update at this point. their targeted customers for the macbook are people who are just going to surf the net, check email, write papers, listen to some music, and maybe watch a movie once in awhile. apple doesnt NEED a graphics update to this line, because thers not much of a demand at this point.
