It should be compatible. You should also be able to find that out with a little creative googling, but it should work.
More problematic is the external enclosures available.
I didn't want one with just USB. I prefer firewire. Turns out that for 2.5" form factor, internal SATA drives, there is just one option. It looked like there were two, one from Wiebetech and one from Transintl.com, but I ended up getting one of each and, guess what? They are the same unit, branded differently, made in China.
The first one I had was bad. Once you put the drive in and screwed it together, a ball of solder on the board came into contact with the other board and it just would crap out. I returned it for a new one, but I'm not thrilled with this design. Still, it's the only way to go right now.
And one more thing, these particular enclosures will allegedly only support a 160 gig drive. This may not be important now, since you're just replacing the stock HD from a MB or MBP, but down the road, that may come into play.
Anyway, I have massive issues now with Sonnet's driver for their E4P card on my MacPro and must go waste more of my life troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting, while essential, and posting places such as this with tech message, much less essential, but I still do it on occasion, is much much less interesting than doing my creative work and I am tired of it.
I think I need to walk the dog.
