yea, for consumers, glossy screens are much better. thers probably only a small percentage of consumers who wouldnt buy a macbook because of the glossy screen

I'd imagine the MacBook would be upgradable to 3gb now also (if not through Apple via a third party).

i couldn't agree more, no apple laptop is better for portable computing. thats why im going to pick up an imac for a little more power, and use this beauty as my internet/word processing portable laptop!

I have a 12" PowerBook and when I saw the new 13" MacBook, there is no comparison, Why are people waiting for a 12" ? Have you even seen the 13"?
it's a widescreen unlike the PB12... keep waiting, but it is not going to happen.
Anyhow, I have been waiting awhile for this upgrade, the store has been offline forever!!! Hurry apple.. My wallet is itching for one in black!!!

what better way to find out about the C2D macbooks, than to find out instore! and actually inform the staff that they've been updated!! they didn't know apparently! well.. so they said, but yeah! was a nice suprise!

actually it makes a huge difference as the macbook screen is wide aspect, as opposed to the 12in powerbook, which has a squarer screen. the footprints of each are very different, with the MB being almost as large as a MBP's footprint!

i agree that there'll never be a 12" again, considering they've all gone widescreen. and as everyone noted, the 13" looks sweet, but its just not as portable. the wideness of it makes it more akward to hold than the 12" powerbook. im hoping they do release a 10" widescreen MBP next year. they'll definatly be stealing some Vaio engineers for that gig tho.

Says you. I think a small MBP is on the cards. I would, however, buy a 13.3" WS based machine but with a smaller bezel around the screen than the MB.

I could not agree more! That 13'' is just too bulky compared to the beautiful form factor of the best laptop ever made. That said.. mine is getting sloooower, I'll bump it up to 1.25Gb of RAM here soo, just waiting for prices to come down.
I'm not getting rid of this laptop anytime soon.

As long as the MacBook continues to use integrated graphics, you will never see Apple shipping them with single-memory-stick configurations. Unlike the MacBook Pro, using mismatched memory sticks in a MacBook's slots actually results in a potentially painful performance hit.
That's because, if the memory inserted in all slots are perfectly matched, the memory manager can handle multiple requests at once: one access for each memory slot. The GMA950's memory is ideally all grouped together on one memory stick. This way, one stick will never be tied up servicing the GMA950, so the CPUs will always have exclusive access to it. Only the single "shared" stick ever needs to be deal with possible contention from multiple masters.
If you only have one memory stick, then the CPUs and the GPU will always need to fight each other for their turn at accessing memory.
I agree. To not offer people a choice here is ludicrous. All the people that want a sub-15" notebook with a matte screen are completely shut out. Thanks, Apple.
