Yes!!!!

Order mines already. Can't wait till it comes to replace my beloved iMac that I am using now! :) :D :apple:

In the infamous words of Monty Burns... "Excellent".

I won't lie, my i7 system's top purpose is gaming and some basic AV work. Eyefinity is nothing more than a nice luxury, but it is a luxury that's definitely nice :p. My only "issue" right now is that my 3x 24" monitors aren't all of the same make, so it's a little awkward with the bezels. Not too bad though. I'm hoping next year to maybe see if the price will come down on the Dell U2410 so I can pick up three of them (and sell my current monitors).
My Q6600 was stupidly fast coming from a Core 2 Duo. The Core i5 750 is even faster than that.

Every time I mention buying a new monitor my friend asks if they can buy mine so they can have matching triplets. I'd love to get a pair of U2410s but prices are still out of my budgeting for computer hardware. I look at Samsung's PVA displays but I keep crawling back to Dell and 1920 x 1200 kills off any 1080p choices.

The G2410 with the LED backlights gets some good marks on the rendering of blacks and its low power consumption even while being a lowly TN panel.

I'm just glad that I was able to pick up a 5850 though. With TSMC's yield problems, both 5850s and 5870s have become very hard to find, and AMD even recently semi-officially raised the price of the 5850. Thankfully I bought mine not long after they were introduced, so was spared the now-long wait and price increases.
The same thing happened with the 4770. On launch the prices were low but afterward the demand dragged prices up. A lot of vendors had to compensate with price drops on the HD 4850.

This time there's no sibling card to take the pressure off and the 5770 has some promise but is riding solely on DirectX 11 versus performance over the pervious generation. I'm hoping for a 5830 to fill the gap between the 5770 and 5850. 1120 to 1280 shaders binned off of the 58xx line. I don't think there's much more you can squeeze out of the 800 Shader Juniper XT and perhaps a 256-bit memory interface.

While I'm happy that you're all getting your awesome i5's and i7's, I'm confused as to why my regular 27" upgraded to the 4850 video card (Z0GE) hasn't shipped yet. I ordered it on October 22nd and even Apple's support team has no idea when they'll start shipping. Bah!

Cool I can get my dad an early christmas present and get rid of his PC :)

That 27 i7 model is gonna be a nice looking system.

Shipping to the Midwest and delivered by the 13th? Wow. Did you have an expedited form of shipping? I'm in San Diego, closer to Shanghai, yet my delivery date is the 16th (Apple says the 17th). The computer left China today, the 11th, with the following shipping type:

Service type
International Economy Distribution - Indirect Signature Required

If this follows other items from China the product goes to Anchorage, AK to clear customs then heads to Memphis for distribution. So being closer to China doesn't help.

This is going to be AmAzInG!!!

I cant wait until 1030am on the 13th. Thats when fedex and apple say my new beast will be here. I still operate on a borrowed G4 powerbook 15" and now I get to upgrade to a lightning fast i7 with 2TB and 8GB. The ball on my mighty mouse just broke for the thousandth time so I cant wait to try out this mighty mouse either.

I dont know how I am going to get anything else done from now until then?

I'm in the UK and my order still says shipping on November 30, delivered by 7 December.

However, very strange activity on my order today. The iMac unit (as part of a larger order) was cancelled and then re-instated on my order. So I got in contact with a charming customer support person who told me that this has happened to "all" 27" iMac's because of a "problem on the system".

I'm going to take this as a good sign. :)

Thanks!

Thank you for the useful information. I'm still using my trusty Dual 500 MHz G4 PowerMac from 2000, so I'm not used to having products shipped from China. :)

ASUS had a demo board with USB 3.0 at Computex 2009. SATA 6 Gbps was only delayed on P55 because Marvell had IDE compatibility issues. Compound that with Intel releasing the news that they wouldn't support USB 3.0 until 2011 on their chipsets only provided an additional boost to the Light Peak bandwagon.

Damage control had to be done because a lot of people started to believe that USB 3.0 had been completely abandoned. USB 3.0 is coming out in 2009. I never said the components were shipping today.

Actually, you did. In a smug type indirect way:

Your reply:
ASUS and Gigabyte have boards coming out soon. It's rather old news.

Now if you would have left off the smart-ass part, you'd have been more clear (and correct). is it so hard to not act smug on here?

I ordered the iMac i7 this morning. My wife said it should have been here yesterday since Apple should have known that I wanted it:D. Sometimes it takes weeks for her to receive things from QVC, HSN, etc. She's just jealous:p. I called to order from "My Apple". The rep said it will ship before the end of November. Yeah right, I'll believe it when I see it. No hurry, it will arrive soon enough. Until then, my MBP works just fine. Stopped by the Apple store today. No M mice in stock. They sold out almost as soon as they arrived. Nothing I stopped for was in stock, as usual.

Can't wait to see the actual speed difference with these

Guys, even though my 24" iMac is wonderful, I can't help but be jealous with the new i7 iMacs...Handbrake and other multiproc apps must really scream with these machines..!

Enjoy the superior world of personal computing!

Oh, I upgraded from a Q6600 to the i7 920. You're right, it was an amazingly fast processor. Overclocked it's still fairly competitive too. I simply wanted to rebuild to a mATX system, and I was looking at buying quite a few new components to do it, so went to the i7 920 (almost went with a i7 860, but I'm semi-tempted to eventually to replace the 920 with a Gulftown depending on how the prices are).

And yeah, given what I just recently spent out on the mATX system, I can't justify the cost of the U2410s right now, lol. Someday though... :D

And the G2410 is a very nice monitor, TN panel or not. A friend has two of them, and in-person they're very sharp.

A 5830 would be very useful right now. I've heard that it could be introduced around January. Not sure of the validity of that though.

I personally think AMD dropped the ball with the 5770, not so much with its performance, but simply where they're targeting it to. You can pick up a 4890 for the cost of the 5770, and the 4890 outperforms it. Granted, you'd be giving up DX11 and Eyefinity, but I've seen where people have tested the 5770 with Eyefinity, and anything above 1680x1050 tends to push it too hard it seems.

While I have no doubt that part of the reason for the low availability so far has been due to TSMC's horrible yields, currently one of the major rumors going about is that part of the availability issue is due to binned dies being allocated instead for Hemlock. It'll be interesting to see if Hemlock is indeed part of the cause.

Damage control had to be done because a lot of people started to believe that USB 3.0 had been completely abandoned. USB 3.0 is coming out in 2009. I never said the components were shipping today.

That's fine, but to imply that Apple is simply ignoring USB 3.0 while other vendors are embracing it is disingenuous. That it will be shipping in DIY mobos "soon" is different than seeing it show up in Dell and HP machines. Or are Dell and HP ignoring USB 3.0 too simply because they aren't shipping yet?

Don't forget it was Apple, with the original iMac, that really got the USB ball rolling while PC vendors were still clinging to parallel ports (ugh) and PS/2 (ugh) connectors (in fact, I still see PS/2 connectors on current PCs - ugh).

Apple is rarely given credit for pushing USB into the consumer mindset.

(That said, I assume we will see USB 3.0 in Dells and HPs before we see it in Macs.)

Not quite. PCs with USB ports pre-dated the original iMac. What Apple did, that was "revolutionary" for the time, was that they dropped support for all legacy ports. They only supported USB (and ultimately Firewire also).

If I recall, Apple wasn't even part of the original team that devised and developed USB. They joined the consortium afterwards (the USB specification was introduced around 1996 or 1997).

Edit - Yeah, the original seven developers of USB: Compaq, Digital Equipment Corp, IBM PC Co., Intel, Microsoft, NEC and Northern Telecom

Just remember I didn't say that Apple was going to skip it. :p

It's just that Light Peak has gained so much interest and Intel's lack of support of USB 3.0 on their controller until 2011 has caused people to think that USB 3.0 is REALLY DEAD. USB 3.0 is probably only going to show up on more premium motherboards and computers since they're using a secondary NEC controllers. USB 3.0 is coming out in 2009, though at a premium.

Well the do it yourself crowd should see it this or next month. OEMs should be shipping soon. USB 3.0 just isn't dead like some people have started to believe.

Its on the way!!!!

I'm in Nottingham (UK) and ordered an i7 iMac on Oct 20th. I checked earlier today to find no change in status, however I was delighted tonight to find it has shipped with a due date of the 20/11/09 - Hooray!
