I really want to get this software as it will allow me to play 720p/1080p videos on my G4 Powerbook 1.67. So, yes.. push push this guy to continue to sell them to the PowerPC community.

Why don't you guys send mails and twitter coreplayer, knowing what is happening here, so they could sell coreplayer to you?

I really don't see why they don't sell it...even when it was sold the support was inexistent...
The latest news from them only say that they won't release anything for consumer, only for enterprises I think...

As the OP, here's what gets me...

I found CorePlayer for OS X on their website. I clicked 'order/download'. I was directed to their PayPal page. I paid them. They had my money!

So why not honour that process and fulfill my order? Bad form not to mention strange.

Search this site for zen.states tutorials for video on PowerPC. Hands down the best summary of video on PowerPC I've ever seen.

Also, PowerPC luddite had a tutorial on his blog a year or so back about using the extracted mplayer binary to play HD on a Powerbook with similar specs to yours. Lots of command line tweeking, but it worked. Be forewarned, Mplayer kinda sucks for H.264, Coreplayer has by far the best Altivec optimization on the planet.

Sorry to bump but anyone have any more thoughts about workarounds to obtaining CorePlayer? VLC is still not floating my boat in playing HD video on G4.

Mobihand's mothball policy makes no sense, but then if they're no longer interested in selling it or developing it or in fact have any further use or plans for it, then why not make it available on oldapps or similar?

Not advocating piracy/violating EULA but still...

Your best bet is XBMC, it is not as powerfull as Coreplayer, but it shouldn't be very far.
About coreplayer forget it

Well for anyone still thinking of ways of getting coreplayer...
I've tried to import my installed coreplayer (bought for my g4) to a Macbook pro, no way, it asked my serial, I put it and it gave an error).
Sad thing buying a program and unable to use it on other pc.

I say if a developer just up and leaves something, kills it off, especially something like coreplayer which fills a unique niche that nothing else does, then nobody can seriously put up a convincing argument about any "immorality" to do with cracking the code and uploading it free for all. Of course, that's against forum rules here so we can't discuss it, I'll just keep checking Google every so often hoping something pops up and then I'll shed a cheer for joy and oldschool days.

Or may be open source. However I doubt it, they got in way too many legal problems, that's why Coreplayer died.

I never bought it for powerpc because there was no trial version of the software. It sounded more like a scam, more than a video player software...

oh well...

I remember that it seemed a little sketchy. I only got it because of a couple of trustworthy people here. IIRC, their website didn't even explicitly state that it was for MacOS? It just said PowerPC and it was in a long list of other versions for portable devices? If you just stumbled across their website, I don't think it would have been obvious that there was anything useful there. Weird. It was the only game in town to get 1080p smoothly on a G4--A shrinking market, yes, but you'd think that they would have bragged about what they had. Or at least mentioned it. Who knows how many of these they could have sold over the past few years if they had taken it a little more seriously.

I'm just finding out about all of this today. I wanted to get another copy for another machine, but it seems that is no longer possible? It also appears the the copy that I have is locked to one specific motherboard? No way to move it to another computer?

Bummer. This really is an amazing player. It plays 1080p H.264 ACC on my MDD with no dropped frames at about 65-70% CPU (with dual displays, there is still enough power left over to do some work while you're watching something fun).

I think it was to the Mac Address or something, I cannot remember. I bought it for my Palm TX and LifeDrive, it was good however for desktop was quite different.

Oh well...

read what I posted.
No it will only work on the machine from wich it was orginally bought.

From Intell;
It goes by serial number.

That is why I am a bit confused. I have found my coreplayer installer and I have reinstalled it on my PB with no installation issues, the serial is automatically on the input box so I don't have to input it myself. I have copied the serial number but I cannot test if it would work on other machines because where I am right now I have no way to be on any of my other powerpc mac except on this PB.

That's it.
Tried two ways:
installing from scratch on the macbook pro: as soon as I entered the serial it said something that it couldn't be installed due to it

moving the app : asked the serial again and gave the same error.

Is it not that coreplayer was developed for powerpc only?

Guess not.
FIrst extraction I've made was from my G4 system, wich had all intel code stripped down, and of course coreplayer wouldn't open on intel (greyed)
But on the second time I installed it again , and tried to move to intel, the app opens, asks for the code and then says that thing about the serial.

There's a startup check no doubt which probably hashes some unique identifier of the machine and cross-references it with your license key. No doubt it's obfuscated, and there are probably various other checks in place. What information did you have to provide when you purchased it?

I don't know any PowerPC assembly, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to learn some. Feel free to PM me as I believe talking about reverse engineering practices here will get you banned.

Yeah I remember thinking it was a scam of some kind, and also on got it after a few people around here vouched for it. Definitely worth it.

It does use the serial number, which you provide (well, provided now) to the company, they hashed it into a serial number specific to your machine, which allowed it to install and run on *your* machine.

If someone has the binary and / or a valid key I would be very much interested in correspondence with you. Please either PM me or shoot me a mail at mike at nordkril.se.

Cheers.

It goes by the machine's serial number. Each binary is uniquely modified to work with only the key that is generated by using the machine's serial number. That's why there are any keys floating around for it. Because any key one may have, only works with the machine that the binary was made to work with.
