Very nice piece of software, has situation changed since 2016. e.g. is it possibly to legally purchase it? Or macGarden cracked version is "the only way"

Too bad, I like Symbian and Symbian UIQ versions existed.

What is second best option? (will try cracked version for sure!)

I use mplayer on all my Macs - ignore the youtube part of this post, the download contains mplayer and scripts:

A more modern iteration of mplayer:

And PPCMC that contains FFPlay:

Other than that, VLC should be good for 720P on your iMac, XBMC is even better - the one to avoid actually is QuickTime.

Hmm ... I have tested both 0.9x and 2.x and does not play well. Maybe I need to revisit settings. VLC2 looks quite modern and similar to 3.x we use today on Linux and Macs.

mPlayer is known to me from MorphOS

There is strangely a developed modern PPC video player on AmigaOS 4, that I have used on single core PA Semi (AmigaOne x1000) and worked well - Emotion

Surely I have tested it with quite strong Radeon HD card, but I am sure Radeon X600 in my G5 also had some hardware video acceleration, too.

Maybe we could petition or lend some PPC coder muscle for MacOS X Tiger version?

in the test case on single core PA Semi, abeit with modern Radeon HD 7000, it beaten mPlayer with very nice GUI in 720p DivX playback and is actively developed.

Where can I get VLC 1.1?

But it states there the X1000 can't play 1080P - you can on a Powerbook with Coreplayer...

VLC 1.1.12

No doubt no one can beat Core Player :) But it would be good to have something in development, and GUI is nice and Efficient. It uses FFMpeg.

Thank you very much, will test VLC 1.x extensively.

Mplayer audio goes asynchrone on some 1080p videos. Coreplayer and also VLC does not have these problems on my G5.

The thing with core player is, yes it can play 720p on a Mac Mini. But half the time the video will be a blocky mess. Still amazing, but I'd rather watch H.264 or just straight up MPEG-4 480p on a Mac mini. 480p underrated IMO.

Yes, Coreplayer and the older mplayer can be picky with recently encoded video.

I agree - well transcoded 360P is good enough for me on laptop screens.

Interesting, so old 720p rips don't have this issue?

360p is very decent IMO, though it's terrible YouTube has revoked our 480p single file streams (except on live streamed videos, PPCMC 7 even supports this). My minimum is 240p MPEG-1 on the clamshell.

If you are using handbrake for coding or reencoding disable this option an the blocky problem is gone.

Their website - they have all the versions there.

Mmmmm, hard to say. My iMacG4 1,25GHz can play 1080p, but it is limited. You must play with the settings of the encoder to fet a playable file.
