I don't care what the phone screen is made off
nothing will stop me from buying an screen protector
if the phone screen is good or better than the previous ones then no problem
even better dual protection but a protector screen is a must
not only does protect against drops, scratches
but I preferred that is the screen protector that one that break
instead of the phone screen
you can easily replace the screen protector and it cost much less that having to buy or replace the phone screen
one thing is for sure if I ever had to replace my phone screen I rather do it myself
instead of paying some of the rip off guys
trust me I have a neighbor that own a repair shop
this is just like car mechanics while some are legit
others are straight up thieves
no one told me I saw it in person
how they rip their own costumers
anyway back to the topic
all my iPhones , iPads they all have covers and screen protectors but that is just me

given your pfp you may be harder on phones than the average user... at least when you're angry.

Why do phone screens don't scratch until 6-7 level of hardness (youtube tests) but they scratch every time I put them in my pocket? I don't think my pockets have minerals in it, to be able to scratch the display.

THIS! I don't care about drop strength that much, I'm very careful with my phone + use a case. But my iPhone X has SO many micro scratches all over the screen just from my pocket. The iPhone X screen is worse than any other iPhone I've owned all the way back to the 3G in this respect.

Totally unbelievable "Gorilla crap".

A component that shows the technical compromise has better chances to survive on the market as long as an improved successor is claimed. Therefore the gorilla propaganda is somehow comprehensible.

However, since glass always remains glass (regardless of whether intrinsic stresses are reduced, assembly technology improved or coatings applied) it will always break.
It does not matter in practice whether the glas fracture stress can be reduced by a few per mil.

I personally have been lucky with the glass surface of my iPhones. And of course I like the glass and would condemn plastic as cheap. But when you sell porcelain, you also have to hope that the customers can handle porcelaine.

Gorilla would be well advised to finally end the medieval-looking propaganda of lies.
Or they should disclose which patent magic they use to created their magic miracle material.

Everyone commenting here is amazed that the 7 drop average is so high, I was shocked to see it so low! I'm sure i've dropped my iPhone 7 100+ times on hard ground since I got it almost 2 years ago (luckily just some scratches so far)... Going without a case could never be an option for me.

The glass on the new iPhones is obviously stronger. Does anybody not remember how easy the 4/4S would completely shatter? How easy the 6 was to crack around it’s “rounded corner” (fixed with the 6S glass).

Your (and all of ours) pocket/s does have some specific particles that in combination with pocket rubbing results in very edgy materials.

Even a coin/key with some oxide or miniscule broken metal abbrassions can result in this scratchy/edgy material

I've seen every generation of glass break...

And no generation has stated it wont.

Corning loves to say that their new Gorilla Glass is so unbreakable but then when new devices come out they break just the same. Hopefully this time is different but I won't hold my breath.

No company has officially stated that any type or generation of glass is UNBREAKABLE.

How the extremists view Apple here seems pretty much unshatterable. One camp seems to think Apple is God. Another camp seems to think Apple could never do a single thing right. Neither camp ever seems to budge from such positions. Their views of Apple are unshatterable. ;)

I used to think Apple could do no wrong. Then I got 6 faulty iPhone 5 units. One after another, and the same amount of condescending geniuses talking down to me while I tried to get them to fix it again. Not my favorite company anymore. Still the best software.

Seriously? 7x a year? I never drop mine and always go caseless.

Dinosaurs (late Cretaceous): "Asteroids, smasheroids. The Rapters say that the odds of a big asteroid actually hitting the Earth is only a once-in-about-65 million years event."

"Wow, look at that bright streak of light up there."

Of course... because it was YOUR fault that those iPhones were faulty. Their iPhones were working perfectly (so yours could not possibly be failing to work perfectly).

Maybe a "cheap Chinese charger" (redirect) was in play. No???

You were probably then tagged as a Samsung shill. ;)

It was actually dust in the camera lens, a big problem it seems from that gen ( still see threads now about people seeing “dark spots” in their 5/5S shots” . It was pretty obvious, but the geniuses always started by minimizing it and making it seem like the problem was me. Cue 4 minutes into the rudeness I’d pull out the phone and show them and “OMG THATS HORRIBLE, I’m so sorry you were right.....” “this NEVER happens (I’d already looked at half the iPhone 5’s I could find in my school, they all either had dust in the back or front camera). Then they’d run up with a new phone, that would either start with having dust in it and messing up the picture, or would eventually get dust in it after a week or two. I switched to a HTC One. That was when Samsung was doing those extremely aggressive ads outright making fun of Apple users, and I just didn’t think that was a classy thing to do, I went with LG next and then a 6+. No dust since, but I still inspect every new iPhones camera extremely closely now when I first open it. Fool me 6 times.....

Beyond that mechanical design is an issue here. If the frame protects the glass all is fine. If there is no frame the glass isn't protected. My iPhone 4 is still going after several drops, it is all about what hits the concrete first.

When iPhones are involved, clearly it's the concrete's fault.

Companies should make concrete that gets out of the way of falling iPhones. Stupid companies. Probably some conspiracy against Apple. We should BAN concrete! Who's with me? ;)

Destroying their self-esteem is considered shatter able;).

I'd be interesting in seeing drop tests!

I think it's small particles of sand?

It’s not sand and not scratches either. What you see is micro scratches on that coating they put on the screen to help against finger print smudges or something.

What I meant by "so unbreakable" is "more unbreakable" in the sense that it's more resistant to breaking.

We all know there is only one UNBREAKABLE

It's pretty unlikely that this will make it into the 2018 iPhones since it was just announced this morning. The 2019 iPhones are looking better and better, though.

Well... not necessarily. Corning *publicly* announced it today. That doesn't mean that they haven't been working with Apple for months...
