I am going to hold out for 4 cores.

i come from ALIENWARE laptop i7 quad core processor, and i do not see it is worth to wait for a long time for a quad core i7 in MBP. Firstly, not many applications are design for quad cores, mostly dual cores are power enough. Secondly, it's true current i7 quad core will perform better in gaming, but MBP is not design for gaming or the weak graphic card is the bottleneck, not the CPU. Lastly, u can always sell your current one and get a new quad cores MBP once you must have it.

in reply to people saying that i7 is a pathetic upgrade and not worth the money, check this link out: its anandtech's review.

personally im days away from ordering one with the i7 myself.

it still depends, if your time worth much money, then i7 will save some time & money over i5 in daily use. For most common users, 5 seconds more encoding time is acceptable.

i am a week away from ordering my MBP 15" i7, simply because the 15" size and 512 VRAM.

im in the same boat. getting at i7 with 8gb ram and SSD (128)

but my only problem is to get a 17" or 15"

i was 100% for the 17" until i went into an apple store and picked one up. not sure if it would be the most fun to take to work 3 days a week and use around home portability wise, and the hi-rez on the 15" makes it look like a 17". On the flip side i like the amount of wrist rest on the 17".

if you do not play games then 17" is the way to go compare to 15" hi res. i will go with 15" because 1680x1050 and 512 VRAM will gain better gaming performance than 1920x1200 and 512 VRAM. (i play little games lol)

im holding out for 4 cores too but i don't think we will get 4 cores next year. the sandy bridge CPU w/ 4 cores will be 45W TDP. these are performance / extreme processors. the ones that apple is most likely going to use will be the mainstream ones with 20W TDP. the mainsteam ones are 2 cores w/ hyperthreading. the perf. ones are 4 cores with hyperthreading to 8 virtual cores. I want quad core as much as the next person but i don't think
Mr. steve jobs will let us have our cake and eat it too when sandy bridge macbooks come out. I'm holding out for 4 cores for one reason only. to future proof. i plan to use the macbook pro i am going to get for 3-4 yrs at least. maybe more.

I prefer the extra cores because there are many emulation programs and VMs that benefit from the added cores and oodles of memory. I would like to take load of my VM servers that I made which have 8 cores and 16GB of ram. Being able to take a good replication of my servers on the road with me is always a benefit and I would not settle for a current dual core to emulate even half of my current study lab environment.

If I really wanted to game I would use my 50 inch LCD TV with either my PS3, XBox 360, or WII.

Hey everyone,

Here is the newbie talking,

I am a Computer Engineering student and I use Windows comp. PC all the time. But I start to think "now it's the time for mac", and I am searching whole data on the internet to find me the best option. You know that MCPs are not inexpensive that's why I have to choose the right one for me.

I am gonna use my MBP for :

* Whole day usage. Like on mornings at classes and at nights in my dorm room as a desktop PC.

* Programming capability.( I do not have worries about that )

* And some entartainment usage. i.e. Games or Movies on Hi-Res.

What is your recommendations ? For example I think that :

15" MBP
Core i7 2.66 Ghz
4 Gigs of Ram ( This is the questionable part. 4 or 8 ? )
Anti-Glare or Glossy ( Is it worth ? )
500 GB 7200 RPM ( Or should I choose SSD one? )

And I have one more question. It's about rebate policies. Are they pay the money back or are we get some kind of Apple Gift card, and how many days it take to take that money back?

I know there is lots of questions but if someone gives me answer I'd be appreciated.

Ps: Sorry for my English, that is not my native language. Thank you all. :apple:

Do you guys think that is a good deal to buy a refurbished Macbook pro 2.4 i5 from the apple store at $1529? I am so debating whether I should go for it or buy a 13inc MBP.
