Could not activate cellular data network

Back up in Central NY

Hope everyone is coming back up with their connections. We're good here in Central NY. Maybe ATT expanded the 3g coverage to my house. Then I'd have a reason to buy a new iPhone. :)
 
Back Up in NJ

It appears all is working fine. I guess the system had a "system brain fart" for a minute. I got on to the App store and downloaded an update. And I went on Safari. My e-mail has been coming in all of the sudden too. I got about 25 messages within seconds. My SMS is working now too. I got a reply to a messaage I sent out when I noticed this going on a few hours ago.

Hopefully the fart has completely evacuated the system. :D
 
Still happening in Utah

I started getting the "could not connect to cellular network" error on Jan 6, 2008. It's now Jan 8, and I still can't connect! I'm in Park City, UT...

UPDATE - Reset my Network settings, things seem to be working for now...
 
bump, Im in Texas and this just started happening today
so im guessing this just ended up being a network thing?
anyone else experiencing this right now
 
hey. yea i'm in texas and this morning it was fine and for the past few hours i havent been able to connect to anything again. however, my mom has an iphone too and says hers is working fine...
 
i just updated

im in EAgle PAss Texas and its the same thing! I thought it was because of my update to 2.2.1 that i just did a few minutes ago... :confused:
 
dang it now im restoring my phone for nothing
oh well ill just jailbreak it again later
to above: does your mom have a 2g or 3g?
cause i have a friend who has a 2g and its working fine
 
my mom and i both have a 3G. Only dilemma there is when I ask her if her phone is working fine, she probably isn't checking the weather or map apps. Although, she had this issue the other day and I told her to turn it off for a few minutes and turn it back on, and it worked fine. Not for me. Are y'all also having issues with voicemail?
 
i still havent set my voicemail up:D so couldnt tell you
probably need to do that sometime, ive had it for a month haha
 
yep... asked her to look into it more and see if her apps were working and that was a no go so her's is down as well. as well as many of my friends here at school. another friend in Amarillo was connected to wi-fi so was not having issues but once disconnected from that got the same error message as we did.
 
I'm in Austin and am having this problem also. I was able to retrieve my email earlier this morning but have now been trying various "fixes" for the last hour or so with no luck.
 
just found out

and yeah its a network issue. ATT is probably updating thier towers for more service in more places and have the DATA on hold for a while

Glad I found this website, I am in Austin and couldn't figure out what was going on! Thanks for all the postings, this help keep my sanity!
 
so are any of you having issues with voicemail?
it continues to tell me it cannot initiate the connection when i try to go and i had two missed calls this morning which i thought would leave voicemails but they arent appearing.
i went the old fashion way to check it by holding down the 1 button and both missed calls had left a message, but they arent showing up still.

YEah voicemail is working fine. It loads and plays like normal. Its just my DATA thats not working
 
yea called AT&T to talk about the voicemail issue..

they said they are aware of the data network outages in north and south texas..

mentioned also that they do not know how long it will take to fix the problem since it happened this morning..

made it sound like they still dont know why it went down..
 
Same problem, I just landed in Austin, so I was confused why it was not working here, versus in Jersey. But i guess it's a problem with their network
 
This happened to me last night...my 2nd day with an iPhone. I was at the Red Sox game in Boston and was showing off the ability to upload a photo to Facebook, and nothing internet related was working. Then I got the "could not activate cellular data network" error, even though I had full bars AND 3G. Really embarrassing.

So do we have any confirmation that this is a network problem, or are we just guessing still? I was expecting to find a more recent thread discussing this from yesterday...

Anyone else have problems last night?
 
It could be due to the fact that lots of people are using the cellular data network all at once. It has been known to happen.
