It could be due to the fact that lots of people are using the cellular data network all at once. It has been known to happen.

Yeah, I thought that too but I looked around and didn't see a single other iPhone. Also the person I was with has Verizon and her phone worked perfectly.

Anyways, I guess it was just me. Just wanted to check having found this thread.

Solving Cannot Activate Cellular Network on IPhone

Hi thought you may be interested in what worked for me when I got this message. My husband used his O2 sim in my son's old iPhone and we had this problem. I found a solution as follows:

Go to Settings
Go to General
Go to Network
Click Celllar Data Network
The original APN on his phone was idata.o2.co.uk
I changed that to mobile.o2.co.uk

and it now works fine :)

I'm getting this often now... not sure why it is all of the sudden starting.

My wife's 1st gen iPhone doesn't have this problem btw.

Often, my phone will look like this
(full bars but no "E" or 3G sign)

And then if you try and use data such as Safari - it will get this message:

---- People !! go into "settings" - "general" - "network" - "cellular data network" and change all the -- APN -- to payandgo.o2.co.uk !!!!

i had the same problem and it now works. by the way if you are -- pay monthly" put in paymontly.02.co.uk.

same problem here in Georgia, 2/25/11

Turning the phone off and on will fix it sometimes, but not every time.

Is this a common "bug" now? Any solutions?

Cannot access cellular data network on iPhone

I was driven crazy trying to get Apple and my provider to work out why I constantly got this error message and could not connect to my data service.

Finally Apple discovered that I had a software conflict...I had installed an app called ONAVO and it was blocking my access. When I deleted it (in Settings/profiles)...bingo...data & internet!
