Certainly not.

What a dumb question.

SL is a faster, leaner version of an already excellent OS.

Vista was none of those things. W7 is a faster, leaner version of Vista - but that is not really saying much.

Snow leopard is by far the most stable release of a new OS I've ever seen - I did an erase & install of it. Have 0 problems with it and love it! (My programs all open instantly now and boot times have halved, what's not to like?)

You have to remember that the only people who will post here are those with problems, the thousands of other people who are really happy with SL are unlikely to come and tell you about it :p

Heh.

You have clearly never used either vista or snow leopard.

Or snow leopard against any other OS to be honest.

Its faster, smoother, sexier, sleeker, more thought through than any other OS out there. With 1 new feature.

Just the way I like it.

Vista to Microsoft is as SL is to Apple. Not that SL is as bad as Vista but this OS has surely given apple more bass press, complaints etc. than any other. I certainly wish I hadn't bothered.

It is just like any new OS there will be bugs in its first release as the developers who tested it could not have tested every thing to 100%.

But i do not think its like Microsoft's vista

Nope. I have actually read more positive reviews of 10.6 than negative ones. And I have upgraded my mbp on monday. Just the upgraded, no new installation. I put in the disk, 30 min later the mbp reboots (faster than before) and pretty much everything works right away. From my Adobe apps to Cinema 4D and even all the other little helpers I have installed. And the system is a little bit snappier than before. So far, so good.

No no no lol apart from 1 or 2 minor niggles this is working better than leopard for me and lets not forget once the updates start rolling in and developers get a handle on it, it will be even better ;)

Another vote for NO!!!!! SL is great, I love it. Upgraded both computers on day one and never looked back. (That being said, I didn't have much legacy type stuff running).

If Leopard wasn't Apple's Vista, then how could SL be Apple's Vista? It's just a refinement, 6.1 will come and it'll be fine. SL is just a minor upgrade to Leopard, it seems worse for some right now, because of the bugs, but with the updates to come we will start to see what SL can really do.

With the number of complains on SL, do you think this is Apple's Vista?

Consider the fact that even MS has Win 7 right on track with no major issues.

That's a stupid comment.
Consider Vista, it was a dog of an OS. M$ over promised on features, throwing everything but the kitchen sink into it, but under delivered. It was a slow, buggy problem filled OS that did not enhance the user experience, did not increase security (since everyone disabled the UAC) broke many many applications and needed much faster hardware just to plod along.

Snow Leopard on the other hand was marketed as an OS that had almost no real new features for the consumer. All of the improvements are under the hood, so there's no over-promsing/under-delivering.
The OS is actually faster then its predecessor
The security has been enhanced even further, then its bullet-proof older brother.
Many if not the majority of apps work seamlessly on SL as they did on Leopard.

So stating that SL is apple's Vista is a bogus inaccurate statement.

I installed 2 days ago, and have yet to run into any issues at all.

Keep in mind that the forums are for complaining, so you would not see anything else.

This tread is a joke.

I don't have anything to complain about SL. Most trouble free upgrade ever. All apps i use are working as they used to and the machine is noticeably faster. Some changes on the visual side would have been sweet just to make it feel new, but as long as it runs well I'm happy.

Stupid thread. Fail. Stupid Microsoft. Fail (always!).

Why is there always a need to compare? I realize they're competing OS's, but why the need to always say "This is Apple's Vista", or similar?

So far SL has been rock solid for a number of people, including myself. I upgraded 3 systems in about an hour. All are faster, and had NO compatibility issues. It hasn't crashed, nor have any apps. I think it says a lot to the OS that the upgrade was seamless, and that it looks "the same". A new OS, or an update doesn't mean the entire GUI needs to be rewritten, and have new eye candy. In fact, I'd prefer it didn't! That's why I like OSX! Would I like the old aqua sliders to look like iTunes? Sure...but it won't make my computing experience any better. It won't make my apps run faster, or let me write an email faster.

If you want a "Brand New" experience, then I suggest you do buy Windows 7. I've used it, and quite frankly I don't see all the hoopla. IT'S NOT ALL NEW! It still looks like Vista to me, so I guess I don't get it? They added some things, sure...but I don't see how a new dock, more transparent windows, and a new calculator are worth $159.00...?

Vista is the final MICROSOFT DISASTER that prompted me to switch to Mac in March 07. My Mac experience has been EXCEPTIONAL. Comparing SL to the garbage Vista OS is LUDICROUS! SL is not PERFECT but it is STILL a far cry better than any Microcrap OS, though NOT even a small leap above Leopard !

Personally, I feel Microcack should GIVE 7 away to Vista licence holders, as an apology for the complete train wreck that was Vista. Ugh - I can't think of any OS worse than Vista... well, maybe Crapbuntu!.

It just shows Microsoft were always more interested in $$$ than quality, due to the fact that they didn't make their own proprietary hardware, like Apple. Any old numbnuts can setup a PeeCee manufacturing plant, and churn out tin boxes, these days. Well done Microsoft, way to go

What's with the fact that they STILL haven't fixed the UGGGGLY icons, and eye-straining fonts?. Has anyone opened "Control Panel" in Vista/7?. Talk about cluttered and confusing - on a par with Nokia's diabolical mess of Symbian/N-series phones, for sheer confusion and clutter. UGGHHHH!!!!

Snow Leopard is exactly opposite to Vista.

In perception, development, outcome and position within the company and the buying public.

Exactly the opposite.

What the heck is wrong with people? Snow Leopard is awesome and doesn't compare to Vista at all.

There's nothing further to discuss.

its a cycle...

Most people can't remember that Leopard 10.5 had the same amount of bugs (mine was the wireless issue) but we solved them here as a community or posted solutions that where beneficial too most, a small percentage however remained unresolved. My postings regarding 10.5-10.5.5 included our inability to upgrade in a methodical manner, that is: if you have a stable system then try the upgrade through an external drive, once you have tested it and find it stable then you may proceed to installing it on your internal drive, its a simple process but it will save you headaches, we also keep getting a reminder to back-up your stuff, put it in CDs DVDs external drives etc, so if you need to re-install 10.5 it will be a simplified process, but some users in their enthusiasm forgo this process and when they do not get the results then they feel its the software and not themselves that are at fault, its just easier to blame Apple or the OS for the lack of a good methodology regarding OS upgrades, and this can be applied to any company not just Apple.

You're saying Ubuntu is crap.. which I disagree!

Do other folks on the board think the same?

You just said you'd prefer that OS X look the same with internal improvements than have the GUI rewritten, but then you go on to say Windows 7 looks exactly like Vista so don't buy it...make up your mind.

Needless to say Snow leopard is the complete opposite of Vista coming from someone who had almost no problems with Vista.

Snow Leopard...

Postings of a similar nature appeared in the Apple forums regarding 10.5 specially about the wireless issues it had, many posted frustratedly things like:"Apple fix this issue!" it happens here in the macrumors forums once in a while where they are ignored of course, but help us help you by writing a concise post regarding your problems, keep it in a friendly tone and you will probably get a good response. Please avoid writing things like:"Im switching back to Windows" or "If this does not work and returning it" things like that gets us nowhere, please read carefully those posts that show a sign of a possible solution and remember to back things up before you do, learn how to research your problems, I recommend this site, also macfixit, macosxhints and the Apple forums, or you may google your issue, you would be surprised to see how many posters are out there helping people out.

No. Leopard was Apple's Vista. Snow Leopard is Apple's Service Pack 2 for Vista, ahem, Leopard.

The only reason Leopard was a problem was because many people didn't perform an erase and install. Not once did I, or anyone else I've installed it for, have any major or direct problems with it.

I say direct because of the crazy people who still used classic, or had some unupdated app from 10.2 on their system which would happen anywhere.

The biggest, craziest problems came from upgrades during the 10.5.0 times, which is understandable for a major overhaul in an OS. No OS update for any system has ever been 100% compatible with every piece of software/hardware made before it. There will always be problems, people will always complain.

I have used both Vista and Windows 7 since beta.

Snow Leopard is 100X more stable than Vista at release could ever hope to be. In addition we will start to see huge pay offs due to new GCD and OpenCL architectures in applications that start shipping next year.

We're talking about, in some cases, 100% faster application performance on the same hardware.

In the Windows world if you want better performance than you get to spend another $2000 upgrading to new hardware.

Vista only got usable after SP2. Prior to that it was a giant PITA, with terrible/buggy driver support. It didn't crash much, but it was slow as molasses and used a ton of RAM.

Even after SP2 Vista with UAC on (default) is nothing but a nagging nanny, demanding your permission and password for every other mouse click. Are you sure you want to run Adobe Photoshop Billy? You've run it 10000 times but the system still needs your permission.:rolleyes:

Windows 7 finally fixes a lot of these remaining issues with Vista and makes things a lot more smooth and polished. Also ripped off a few more things from Apple on this release, such as the dock.

Windows 7 is a good improvement for PC owners. Snow Leopard is a rocket ship OS that's going to take computing to the next level.

Anyone who doesn't understand what's so great about Snow Leopard should dig into the Ars Technica review, which explains (in coding language) what is so important about it.
