I think with all of the lawsuits coming from apple, people are coming here to bash them. And I don't blame them I'm ready to dump my iPhone for a Galaxy S3, but my jobs requires iPhones *sighs*

I hate to quote internet meme's but thats such a first world problem, I mean seriously lol

I concur.

After moving from Nokia handsets to Apple I don't go on Nokia Discussions and bleat on about the iPhone.

Because in a Nokia forum there isn't anyone to brag to.

But seriously, I feel people bring up android because android has caught up. The two OS's are tied together for the long haul. It's like in baseball. The red sox fan spends as much time complaining about the Yankees as they do cheer for their own team. It's the nature of the beast.

Also, how can the iPhone be the best if you compare it to nothing?

Listen, I couldn't admit it either, but what's going on at Google is amazing and more iPhone users on this board are more interested. If you don't like those users making the best of this great forum's knowledge, you should leave.

Yes please!!!

*tin foul hat on*

I honestly wonder if there aren't a few $hills here, especially among recently joined members.

A few thoughts:

3) People tend to stick with a forum they're familiar with. They feel like they're among friends. You see this with car forums, too: people might buy a different brand because of a new family etc, but that doesn't mean they want to leave.
This makes no sense whatsoever. Not only is it rude, but it's also inconsiderate.
I drive a prius and used to drive a honda. This doesn't mean I go on honda boards and trash talk their insight while talking up my prius. If I stopped driving a prius and got a nissan leaf, I wouldn't post on a prius board about my nissan--even to make comparisons.
Unfortunately, that's not even what the fandroids are doing. There have been reasonable posts from people who switched over to android. They post the differences between android and iphone, but there are more posts that bash the iphone.

Hi All,

Please post your thoughts on this existing thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1399245/

The admins advise that a 'fix' is imminent. I can only assume that fix is a sub forum, however they have not specifically said that.

Something to bear in mind though, I imagine most Android users dont want their posts moved to a sub forum where they cant anger iPhone users lol. In addition, maybe MacRumors depends on the increased traffic created by the vast amount of Android topics and dont want to see that reduced, even if it means ruining the experience for iPhone owners who come here for......y'know, iPhone information and discussion.

Some of the arguments Android users use when asked why they post here is "I also have an iPad" or "Im a tech enthusiast" or "ah but I have an iPhone as well which is my work phone!" - sounds to me like a sub forum is EXACTLY what they need in their lives :)

Anyway, as Ive mentioned in the link above, if something isnt done this place is going to be a complete free for all come the launch of the next iPhone and iOS. I can see it now, and its not pretty!

Am I the only one getting really exhausted with this forum? I understand the few odd switching to android threads but it has gotten to be sickening lately. The iMac forum isn't full of threads about switching to Dell so why is this forum so filled iPhone bashing and talk of switching. If you have switched do us a favor and go over to some android forum and don't bother saying goodbye.

imac is far less popular than iphone is, just check numbers...
Also average duration of owning a phone is what ? 20 months? so you come to this question of new handset much more often than new computer!

People switching or intending to are apple products users with or without their iphone so there is no reason they could not keep posting here.
This increase in ambiguous threads only reflects how people expect apple to come with something outstanding this time, what was not the case with number 4 and 4s.

You do realize for every lawsuit filed by Apple,100 have been filed against them. (not counting countersuits). They are one of the biggest company world, they attract a lot of litigation. The vast majority of people who buy consumer electronics have no idea about any of the litigation. Of the ones that do know about it, very few care.

The posting population of Android and Apple fan sites combined is less then one half days iPhone sales. (Most likely it is far less). Nothing that happens in any of these forums is at all relevant to what happens in the marketplace. If you count everyone that just reads the stories on fan sites, you might climb up into one day of sales. If you round up all the tech sites together, you might hit a week.

... what was not the case with number 4 and 4s.

Ahh yes the terrible iPhone 4 and 4s. The best selling phones of 2010,2011, and 2012. With the highest customer satisfaction rating by far. How disappointing.

A few thoughts:

1) With the tens of millions sold, the majority of iPhone owners probably are not really Apple fans, with any associated loyalty. To them, discussing other phones seems natural.

2) It's hard to escape a constant mention of Android and Samsung, simply because Apple is expending so much effort taking them to court. (Personally, I think this is backfiring, not least because of all the publicity Samsung is getting for free.)

3) People tend to stick with a forum they're familiar with. They feel like they're among friends. You see this with car forums, too: people might buy a different brand because of a new family etc, but that doesn't mean they want to leave.

4) iPhone (not Mac) forums seem to have a tendency to attract rabid fans who want to only hear good things about their favorite company. The more they try to make up myths, the more it attracts people who want to correct them.

5) Look at the thread topics. If there were no competing system threads, the iPhone section would be boring half the year because of Apple's slow release schedule.

I do agree that it might make sense to have an "Other Phones" subforum where comparisons and debates can be moved.

I totally agree with you. I have been on these forums for a few years now and I feel comfortable with the site. That being said, I love debating. I also am now trying to be mindful that it is an Apple forum, not an Android one, but I guess sometimes you just like to share your experiences whether with Apple or Android.

I would also wager dollars to donuts that if the mods were to set up a sub forum that it would likely be one of the most lively of the forums within the iPhone tag.

Actually if you think about it it does make sense. Just because I have an Android phone now, doesn't mean that I am not interested or that I don't support iPhone and I am just as hungry for the release as anyone else. I love the hype!

I don't come here to bash the phone, merely to share my experiences and to see how others feel about it. This is the nature of a forum, discussion and debate. Were it not, the sewers would be full of rainbow colored toilet paper from wiping all of our butts with sunshine and rainbows while watching empty forums.

I don't feel it is rude or inconsiderate to share my views on a forum with like minded individuals, just because I have switched my phone, does not mean I have switched my interest in the iPhone. It IS rude and inconsiderate for the trash talk portion though I agree with you there.
