I just don't see this one happening as fellow Pennsylvanian O'Grady predicts. I think the Mac Mini will be the media center, not a Mac Mini built into a Plasma. I think Apple will announce they have partnered with one of the Japanese LCD/Plasma screen manufacturers to bundle a Mac Mini with one of their screens.

Apple concentrates on the media center, Japanese TV MFG concentrates on the TV. Both win and both do what they do best.

Just my two cents.

Around this time is wonderful for me. Christmas, New Year's, and then MWSF and my birthday... but of course, MWSF is always the highlight of them all.

Clearly there won't be any new products announced at MacWorld this year, I mean where are the photos of new product boxes in an elevator? How come no one has reported that one of the sales people at their local Apple store leaked them the specs on new gear just as they were about to buy a "soon to be obsolete" product.

It's better than Christmas, it's the Christmas Eve of the Mac world! All is anticpation and imagination -- visions of 50" standalone computers dancing in their heads, etc.

Of course for those of us without the spare $3200, I guess the anticipation will stretch itself out for a while. :(

Thank God for Apple stores. At least then you can pretend you own a 50" cineMac.

Well you might be itching Lacero, but I'm about to gnaw my arm off in anticipation. Oh I just can't wait, but I guess I should try and concentrate on something else being as I have two A Level maths modules tomorrow afternoon about an hour before the start of the Stevenote™...Oh Steve, why hath tho forsaken me with such inconvenient timing!

Uber

I might consider getting an iBook just to hold me over until the PowerBooks arrive. Perhaps I'll try one at CompUSA first.
Admittedly, no recent Powerbook has felt faster than my 1GHz PB 12". That's kind of depressing. I'm hoping this changes...

Hoping for an updated iPod shuffle, because that's all I can afford right now - and I want something a bit smaller than my original 5Gb iPod.

Dual 2.8Ghz Mac Mini ??? Someone is pulling O'Grady's chain.

Sounds odd but that could be a PPC

Ugh. I know. I have to teach during the keynote. Can you believe that? I've gotta supervise full-of-attitude adolescents while they rearrange words in poems from Macbeth instead of watching Steve.

Maybe we'll put MacRumors up on a projector and do an impromptu analysis of internet language instead ...

Hey anybody with Atari in the nick is ok with me.

Uno, rumour sites have really changed. Rumours used to tell us one or two things at an event so we'd have the excitement of knowing, and still some surprise. The Stevenote is meant to be a happy surprise, but now it will probably just be a disappointment when most of the rumours we have believed aren't true :(
I'm still excited though :D

Actually that would be a good learning tool..

I somehow managed to convince myself the keynote was today even when the countdown is clearly on the MR front page and I have a widget with the same info, which I've been checking for weeks.

Where's my tardis?

Tick .... tock .... tick .... tock.

Bahhhhh!

I'll eat my shorts if Steve-o introduces a plasma TV with an integrated Mac. :D

No Plasma, No iPods (except maybe revised Shuffle).

New iLife (pretty obvious)
New iBook - been a long time since upgraded.
New Mac Mini - This is why they didn't announce the previous upgrade. They didn't want to announce one upgrade then announce another such a short time later. Not very Steve like.

One more thing? Who knows. I'd like the PVR Mac Mini, but Steve apparently doesn't like TV. (Plus he doesn't make money off of iTunes sales). Must be something with the rumored increase in .Mac bandwidth.

Sisyphus

PS I'd better get some hot sause ready for my shorts just in case.:( :D

Well right now I have everything I need (much to the relief of my credit card), but as always I await the improvements to the iLife package and that would probably be all I get.

SOME of the exciting rumors will turn out to be true.

Of course, some will not, which will mean much disappointment for some.

Just remember, some things that ARE true will NOT show up tomorrow. Some things are ready now, others will be ready... soon. Apple may want to spread out the announcements.

For instance, I'd love to see ALL the G4 Macs updated to Core tomorrow, but I'd guess that only some will be. But I think the others will likely follow before too long.

2.8Ghz... yeah right. IMO the Mac Mini only needs 3 things to be perfected:

  • 7200rpm HD with larger storage
  • At least an ATI 9600/X300
  • Bluetooth, Airport and a Superdrive as standard on all models.

It would also be nice if they introduced a high-end model of the Mac Mini with the same specs as the iMac (X600, 160GB standard, double-layer Superdrive, DDR2 RAM). The Cube returns :)

unless you are there, nobody is watching Steve. there is no live webcast this year. there will be one posted later (at night maybe). the news/rumor sites are hoping for wifi or cell phone connections to report from.

That's the spirit. Nothing like a self-induced flogging with a chain whip made courtesy of MR. :D

Those rumors are some serious b.s. What about the new intel PowerBooks? Nothing mentioned about them at all in the "rumor roundup". Also, there is no way in h3ll we'll see a Core Duo in the Mac Mini. You people are out of your minds if you think that the Core Duo will find it's way into the Mini in any form. The mini is an entry level machine, and it won't get professional grade components. Frankly, I don't see the Core Duo finding it's way into any platform other then PowerBook. Just stop and look at all of the Core Duo PC notebooks announced last week at CES. ALL of them are PROFESSIONAL grade notebooks.

Plasma... too fragile, too heavy, LOW resolution... and what market is clamoring for this? Bad idea... Plasma is going to quickly go the way of the dodo. Why pay $2000+ for a monitor with a native resolution no better than SVGA and is extremely susceptible to burn-in?

Because people like to say "PLAAAAAAAAAASMAAAAAAAAAAAA".

Yep, Seinfeld reference. :D
