Maybe a somewhat obvious question, but I presume we'll see OS 4.0 rolled out on the 7th after WWDC's keynote ends?

Or do you think we'll have to wait a little longer?

Well there was a rumor a couple weeks ago that the iphone would be released during WWDC. But of course rumors will be rumors... ;)

Historically the new OS has been released after WWDC. I believe 2.0 was released on the same day as the 3G, and 3.0 was released approx a week prior to the 3GS. This is only going off my memory so I could be wrong. But if you believe the rumor I stated above, then it is very likely to see 4.0 during WWDC :)

I got my iPhone 3G exchanged under warranty for a crack at the headphone socket, so I'm debating on whether to Jailbreak it or just wait for OS 4.0 since WWDC is two weeks today.

I'll probably just hang off, I know I'm not even getting wallpapers on the home screen, but I do like the look of the shiny glass dock. :D
 
I know there is so called a "shortage" of iPads but they will have no excuse to run out of new iPhones. Apple know how popular the iPhone is so hopefully there won't be a problem getting hold of one when it's launched....

I think it's quite possible to run out of iPhones during the initial launch. Is it going to stretch out like the iPad shortage, most likely not since these are smaller and they are expecting huge demand. It is possible however that they run out the first day, but we shouldn't be left hanging like with the iPad.

As for OS 4, that should be available as soon as WWDC is over. It's in Beta 4 right now and that's a good sign. That gives them two weeks to sure it up and get it to RTM. The iPhone HD/4G/... will launch with it. If it doesn't, then they risk the chance of uniformity and the benefits of the new update. They don't want to give another reason for us to complain ;)

Except for a couple of stores being out of a particular model, they really had no shortages during the last luanch, so I doubt there will be a shortage this round. Espcially since so many of AT&T customers already have an iPhone and not all of them will upgrade.

As I read through the later part of this thread, it seems that the conference will be held on June 7, correct?

Also many of you said that the new iPhone will then be released within 2 weeks after the conference.

Now I was wondering if that was for US only. I live in Canada and I kinda want to know when it will come out. I hope its in August...

My reason being is I will be getting a MacBook Pro + Alot of accesories in July, and need some time to get enough money for the iPhone. So I hope its around August because I should have enough money by then, and if its released in June-July, I will have to watch everyone but me using it...

The 3GS came out in Canada at the same time as the USA, so you should expect the same to happen.

That would make my day! I had to wait 2 weeks to get a 3G iPad from Apple. I would rather not repeat that since i'm impatient :D
