Images of fake MagSafe Battery Packs with a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning are being shared on social media sites, potentially hinting at preparations to mirror Apple's release of such an accessory.

The current MagSafe Battery Pack is a widely counterfeited accessory, but most one-to-one replicas available to date feature a Lightning port. The latest series of images, shared across X (formerly Twitter) and Weibo, depict the same one-to-one replicas but with a USB-C charging port.

The entire iPhone 15 lineup is expected to move away from Lightning and feature a USB-C charging port for the first time, and Apple is expected to bring USB-C to other devices and accessories over the next year. It is not clear if Apple plans to release a new version of the MagSafe Battery Pack with a USB-C port, but it is expected to do so with other accessories such as the AirPods Pro's MagSafe Charging Case alongside the release of the iPhone 15 models.

On the most recent episode of The MacRumors Show podcast, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that Apple is seeking to move to USB-C across its lineup of accessories by next year, likely including the MagSafe Battery Pack. The transition will apparently be relatively fast, mirroring the transition to the Lightning connector following its introduction in 2012.

"They're going to need to do a new MagSafe Duo with USB-C," Gurman said, and Apple "certainly can update the MagSafe battery pack" to add USB-C. It is not entirely clear if these refreshed accessories will be introduced at its "Wonderlust" event on Tuesday, September 12, but the proliferation of images of fakes could hint that Apple is preparing to launch some of them next week.

In addition, Gurman explained that an all-new MagSafe Battery Pack is in development, but it is not yet ready to be introduced. The next-generation battery pack apparently involves a new concept that allows users to "daisy-chain" multiple battery packs together by stacking them and wirelessly charge multiple devices at the same time. For example, it will be possible to charge two iPhones at the same time, with one placed on either side of the battery pack.

My current MagSafes do not really charge UP my phone. It just keeps the battery’s remaining % from decreasing further.

Use case: Navigating, taking pictures on an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

But MagSafes are by far the most convenient. Easy in and out of my purse. Does not get in the way of picture taking. I have gone through at least 2 in 1 day. I frequently see the message “Charging will resume when at a safe temperature”. Or something like that.

The most convenient next option:
2 old very thin chargers with integrated lightning cables.
I attach them onto the phone with a type of iphone bungee cable.

Even though these chargers are very old and take FOREVER to charge via a micro USB cable, at least they actually charge UP my phone when it’s in the most battery intensive use case. But much more awkward than MagSafe. I have to push it slightly away from the camera to take a picture, while making sure the bungee cable doesn't cross the lens.

Third option if I’m really desperate - any bigger charger that plugs in via a cable

i've always bought counterfeit accessories and never had a problem. and i will continue to do so. no point in paying the apple tax for them.
Might as well buy counterfeit iPhones. Jokes aside, I’ve never bought any Apple accessory ever either (except used leather cases at heavily discounted prices on classifieds sites). There are many alternatives at decent prices.

Good, apart from the phone or MacBook everything else I buy such as cases/cables/chargers are proudly counterfeit.
Never had a problem, always had a smile though knowing the money doesn’t go to weirdo cook or the other freak Craig “I walk like I’ve sh4t myself”.

The Battery Pack Tower of Babel is coming.

Never had a problem

LOL!

So you bought items you thought were genuine Apple, found out they were fakes and are proud of it? LOL.

Chances are you are not proudly buying counterfeits, you are knowingly buying non-Apple products that are not being sold as genuine and are then proud of your savings. You do you.

It fake works fine, why pay Apple?

May as well. I doubt the quality of their accessories are special. Forgot the name of the channel, but on YT there's a guy that goes in depth with chargers. Apple's are quite average.

When you buy counterfeit (read: “non-genuine”; not “3rd party”) products, you are subjecting your Apple gear to possible tampering or failure… especially with power delivery. I don’t buy Apple first party chargers because holy Batman are they expensive, but I do buy brands that are at least UL-compliant or approved for MFI.

I accidentally bought counterfeit AirPods from Amazon and they stopped working after a few months because they wouldn’t update the firmware. Waste of money. Just easier to buy right the first time.

I think they meant they bought the fakes knowing they were fakes. It's easy to tell, usually the price is enough.

Not advisable IMHO, if a company is willing to risk selling a product as "genuine" when its not I cannot imagine they spend any money on quality parts. If y'all had good luck I'm happy for you but why spend top dollar for Apple computers/phones/tablets and risk cheaping out on no name chargers? At least buy a quality product from another company. If its a quality product from a known company it isn't counterfeit.
