Very good for Apple. Continuous revenue stream is guaranteed. Google will however not be happy to share data with rivals.
This was a Trump judge.one judge says this and another says that
For what it’s worth, you can turn off web searches from Spotlight by going to Settings->Search->Show Related Content (toggle off). It won’t stop google searches from Siri unfortunately.Wish I could change the default search engine for searching the Internet using Siri, it’s always Google no matter what settings you have set.📱
Honestly you should give it a shot. It’s so much better than Google.$216/yr for searching? Okay, but no. We use Brave and google, no bloat, no ads and we party like it's 2003.
If Apple, with a commitment to generating shareholder value, lost a $20 billion/year income stream, they'd want to replace that...and some of that burden might fall on us. Those base M4 Mac Minis were lauded as offering great value, and I'd like that to continue to be the case moving forward.I don't see any way the consumer gains anything by this.
Because their monetization model is different, relying on hardware, app. store and services sales. Most any private sector computing platform business model needs to be monetized some way (at least the mainstream leaders like Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, Facebook and Google; Linux is probably its own discussion). The question is, how do you pay? If someone came to market with a Facebook alternative that charged a monthly subscription but didn't have ad.s or collect personal info., some people would use it...but it'd be a minority, I think. Wonder what % of YouTube customers pay for YouTube Premium?iOS isn’t out to scrape every last bit of info on you and your family/ peers…
Honestly you should give it a shot. It’s so much better than Google.
I was like you, thinking “who would pay for search?!?” But a friend convinced me to try it and, well, here I am paying.
You don’t seem to understand. They are not going to change the default search engine to something worse and deliberately create a worse user experience just because Google stopped paying them bribe money.read this: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ontinue-with-conditions.2464511/post-34093690
and they could change the default search engine with the upcoming new phones ... and if they did, $$$$ loss for Google
No.Next up, a Gemini deal to power Siri and bring Apple up to speed with AI.
You’re not understanding that Google makes money from Apple choosing it as the default search engine, so they will continue to pay… nd it’s not “bribe”, you’re clearly not understanding thatYou don’t seem to understand. They are not going to change the default search engine to something worse and deliberately create a worse user experience just because Google stopped paying them bribe money.
Is there a bigger Apple bootlicker than Neil Cybart? Google search is complete garbage now and more and more people are using other sources. It’s laughable to think Google isn’t paying Apple enough.
This is them paying Apple to not develop their own search engineI can’t imagine how or why the deal still exists. Seems really dumb on Googles part. They have the best search engine by a mile. If they stopped paying tomorrow, what’s Apple going to do? They’re not going to update all their customers’ default search engine to something worse.
Serious question. Would anything change if google didn't pay apple but people still chose google as their default search engine?Apple: “Privacy is a fundamental human right”
Also Apple: “We don’t care as long as we are getting paid to sell all our users private data out to the highest bidder”
This is them paying Apple to not develop their own search engine
A surprising number of people still believe that Apple is "different"With Apple making money from Google, we are the product.
No. Google is the best free option by miles, even if it isn't as good as it used to be. I am convinced Apple would still set Google as the default even without payment. Bing is probably the only one who could handle the traffic and it's just not in the same league as Google. DDG has privacy angle, but they probably couldn't handle the traffic Apple sent their way, and even if they could, it's really just a re-skinned Bing.Serious question. Would anything change if google didn't pay apple but people still chose google as their default search engine?
How about first pick of the fruits in Apple's walled garden? Unlike outside the garden, where users fend for themselves, those in the garden thinks Apple has their best interest at heart. "If Google is the default search engine, it can't be bad, right?"😇 O sweet child of summer.🤦♂️🤦♀️🫣Agreed, and it makes me think Google is getting more than just default search from Apple they must be getting something with a perceived value greater than $20B per year.
; Linux is probably its own discussion). The question is, how do you pay? Multi-factorial. The people who produce open source have to make a living, ideally in occupations that provide and reinforce coding skills, and despite the high enthusiasm for 'free stuff,' Linux still commands nowhere near the mindshare amongst the general American public of Microsoft Windows, and likely MacOS. It's still more on the radar of enthusiasts, and when one takes a closer look at it, a confusing mess of 'distro.s' (with some weird naming), etc... I watched a YouTube tech. sector influencer (Switch & Click) share her 'journey' into Linux, and she started with Mint (I'd heard of Ubuntu; wondered why someone would go with Mint over Ubuntu (since I didn't know the difference), but it was indicated Mint is supposed to be similar to Windows), but then changed over to Fedora.Let’s have that Linux discussion! How would Linux fit into it all??…
People go where people are. The free model that's already got the majority will continue to be patronized heavily by those people you mentioned (e.g.: influencers). Efforts to put out alternative social media platforms come out once in awhile...but it's the free access like TikTok that seem to gain serious ground. And as far as Facebook goes if the alternative company was charging and it wasn’t outrageous and offered a utilitarian type of site (FB), a social site (IG), and a private e2e message service (WA) AND had all sort of celebs, athletes, influencers and politicians etc. on board then yeah, a sizable amount of ppl would $upport it I think…
It's $5/mo for 300 searches which is generally enough for me. It more than pays for itself for me in time and frustration saved, even if it was double that I"d still pay it. Google ads are not the only concern, the quality of the results suck and the AI Overviews are horrible.$216/yr for searching? Okay, but no. We use Brave and google, no bloat, no ads and we party like it's 2003.
No. It's just a reality of how badly Google has warped the browser landscape. The cashier's check finally cleared the judge's bank account.
