it's funny how they give all that data about how that every other cellphone have this issue, they're going to give a free case anyways to protect their ass from a lawsuit.

Yep. All smart phones do that... Oh wait, my ****** BB Tour 9630 that I don't even like doesn't do that. Way to go, Steve.

How about make a phone that looks as good as the iphone4 but DOESNT require a case to make a call??

You don't need a case. It only happens in areas of low reception. Who can we blame for poor reception? AT&T. I haven't even gotten this death grip issue in San Francisco, where reception is spotty with any carrier/network.

Thank you Stevie for those fake ass demos of other phones. Looks like this piece of $&@" phone goes back tonight. Steve can wipe his arse with it.

WE LOVE OUR CASH COWS

I find it rather interesting that Apple is actually providing factual information on a large scale and yet everyone seems so insistent on ignoring that. I think it's obvious the issue is real but I think this is showing how overblown this whole thing has been. I didn't really see this press conference going in another way than it is, and I think they're doing the right thing. I just think that unless Apple had done a massive recall, everyone is just going to continue to rip them apart.

I don't think anyone's ignoring that, but we're pointing out significant issues with what's being said -

1) The number of people who are calling Applecare is utterly irrelevant. I've not, because there's no point. I know Applecare can't do anything. It's either software or recall, either way it has to get fixed by Apple centrally. Only a tiny fraction of users would call Applecare even if every iPhone 4 was covered in razorblades.

2) The number of returns are irrelevant, given people are waiting for said press conference.

3) The stat on dropping calls, given people will have figured out temporary fixes such as holding the phone in an uncomfortable way or cases or duct tape, is actually very damning indeed.

The way it's presented is not making me feel like Apple values me as a customer. It's making me think they'll make up any old **** that they know is unrepresentative to try and get better headlines.

I don't think the thing has been blown out of proportion at all, and I think Apple's attitude given the call drop numbers that it required such press attention to get them to hold this press conference stinks.

This is funny.

Steve Jobs:

We love our users so much we've built 300 apple retail stores for them

Really?!?!? For me?!?!? Well thank you for building a shop where I can drop $2,500 on a computer.

it's only 0.55% who have got through when they called AppleCare because everyone else loses the bloody signal while they are waiting for your moronic staff to answer the damn phone!

It's also possible that some people have been waiting to see what Apple will do.

Sorry, I just saw The Phazer made the same point above.

Just in case people missed it ...

Presenter LIVE on Sky News just now reporting from their studio, cupping the phone and demonstrating how it makes the bars drop and he says, "Funnily enough I've never been able to reproduce this".

He's live on air, and the bars aren't dropping.

Full coverage and report at 7pm on Sky News

Well no ****. It doesn't happen everywhere. I personally think it has to do with whatever frequency your 3G tower is transmitting/receiving on. They cant ask AT&T to change all of their towers..

I'm packing up for the day and returning my phone on the way home. F U Apple.

You don't even own an iPhone..

I think a number of people with this problem were reserving judgement until they heard Apple's side of things..and now this?

Also for all of those that feel badly for how much Apple is getting knocked around by the media, remember this..if you get free coverage for all new products all the time, you have to be prepared to get beat up when you mess up..

Let the media bashing continue..

Well, I guess you can't complain. I mean, if you don't want a case, then return it.

Personally, I was going to buy a bumper case when I got the iPhone 4.

I agree. I bought a bumper, but I think I'll take a second case instead of refund.

This is funny.

and your wallet can also lose weight thanks to AppStore :D

oh thank you steve

Other phones should not be mentioned at all. it’s about the Iphone people are bothered about and could give a **** about other phone makers.

So we got a press conference that had 15min of "You're a bunch of whiners and big bad media people who blew this out of proportion" followed by "We're sorry you're idiots, here is a free bumper now shut it."

Pure class.

Why is South Korea left out of the next international rollout?

It was supposed to be next international rollout but got dropped. I wonder why? iPhone 3 was a hot item in SK when it rolled out.

By the way, the PR spin is so typical Apple.

I'm not sure what more people wanted. He admitted there's a problem. He quoted consumer reports. He's giving away free cases (not just bumpers, but a choice from among several cases) because it's been said repeatedly by people who are not Apple that a case fixes the issue.

If you're not happy after that, then there's nothing that would have made you happy to begin with. Return your phone and get that android you love so much.
