JNB, if you are an ignorant, dont post.
some cpus do a noise. electricnoise enter in youtube and put "cpu whine" .

If you have such a problem with it record the sound/make a video with your webcam and show it to the Apple geniuses. They will fix it for you.

THE NOISE COME TO THE CPU , NO THE FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
please read more information before post without know!!
the problem come to the C3 and C4 state in the cpu (idle states)

yes maybe the 2.0 is more silent.

Post sound here, then, if you're certain it's the CPU.

This is the logic board. The fan is right next to where the CPU is.

I'm curious how you know where the CPU is, anyway.

i know becouse i saw a similar picture and
a lot of people have this problem with core2duo
the noise is not so high to record becouse is a low frecuensy
well if they dont believe me dont post...

Hi!
I stumbled upon this thread in search for a solution to my own "whining" CPU.
I'm extremely sensitive to sound, and this one almost gives me a headache.

It started a few days ago and I was hoping that it would eventually disappear, but I can't stand it any longer so I'm probably going to contact the nearest service place in the next few days. As for this being "normal", the whining wasn't there 6 days ago, and I've had this MacBook for roughly 3 months now.

I can almost say for sure that it's the CPU that's making this noise, not some fan. I used "QuietMBP" on my Alu MacBook 2.4 and when I moved the slider, I could hear a clear difference in the sound when I was moving it back and forth.

I have a 2.4 Aluminum that exhibits no sign of a "CPU whine." The only noises I ever hear are the HDD and the fans, both of which are much much quieter than my old WhiteBook.

I did notice, because I upgraded to the 2.4 from the 2.0 Aluminum, that this one is "noisier" for some reason than my first. But, compared to my WB it seems practically silent.

But, as far as the OP's question goes, I would answer no.

When I bought my early 2008 macbook, I had to exchange the unit 3 times for various reasons. Now all of the three units had the faint noise around the esc key. However, the only way to hear the noise is in a quiet room and if you put your ear right next to the keyboard. Now maybe it is louder in the new model, but in mine is really hard to notice, and since I dont use my macbook with my head next to the keyboard I dont have a problem with it.

This issue is common, not only on apple computers, but in other machines using the C2D chip as well. (such as Dells and HP's) just google the issue and you'll find various complaints.

what??? i live in argentina, the parts take in arriving a few weeks..

MacBook CPU Noise

I have the same proble and I sent it away to be looked at. I will keep you all posted when I receieve the MacBook back. The tech dude said that it was louder when the speakers were in mute and that it was this high pitched buzz.

wow, no wonder macs are so expensive with people wanting a replaced logic board if there cpu makes a noise. Its like saying i want to get a new tv because it buzzes when the sounds off. My macbook makes a noise since the first day i got it i can only hear it if everything is quiet. It doesn't bother me, you should hear the gpu under xp its even more louder but yet everything works great no problems:D

Problem Found!!

The Problem was with the design phaze. Apple designed the logic board to have the speakers and the microphone built in. That caused feedback and creates the high pitch buzz from the top left of the Macbook.
