Hi DuPPs,

Can you tell me how hard it is?
I have a macbook 1,1 and would like to upgrade, but I don't know how you unsolder the first CPU.

Hi guys,

Ok this isnt something that will be easy to do and i only did it as a once off put to rest all the people saying that it is possible to upgrade the macbook 1,1 cpus to a 64bit dual core cpu.

You will need some experience in working with BGA and reworking BGAs in order to pull this off and if your already asking what BGA is then i suggest you dont bother trying as you will probably end up with with a dead macbook.

A search on youtube for "xbox reballing" will give you some ideas of what work is involved.

Sorry to re-resurrect this thread once again. Seeing Mountain Lion running on 2007 Macbooks (and in the hope this continues to work with the retail version... ;-)) I've decided to buy a 2.16GHz T7400 BGA off eBay and I'm now searching round to find an engineering shop willing to do the swap.

I'll report back if I make some progress :)

Not going to be cheap, even if you can find someone to do it.

Well this machine cost me about £50 - £200 a year in upgrades and repairs so far.... it's not too bad consider at one point it was in use 18 hours a day :)

Suitable CPUs are insanely expensive on eBay... I'm not sure why. I also got burned buying a chip... then reading that it was physically identical to it's (identically named) Socket M counterpart but not electrically compatible.

And the CPU that was Socket M compatible cost me double at £70... but thats how these things go....

I've found a couple of places that will do the work for £45 - so now I'm just waiting on my new Core 2 Duo CPU and I then need to take the motherboard out so it can be upgraded!

Have you succeeded?

Dear Embio! Could you please inform us, if you have succeeded? I'm also thinking whether my macbook 1,1 core duo could be upgraded, so I can run Mountain Lion on it. You input would be highly appreciated.

I have a spare 2.33ghz core2duo chip spare from a pull already balled up for whoever wishes to give this a try.

just need an address to post to and first one to msg me gets it.

all i ask is in return you post your results.

DuPPs.

Hey, I'd sure give it a try! I work at a tech company in Boston with a soldering station. I've got a MacBook1,1 1.83Ghz that I'd try it on. It's actually my wife's old computer, which she has upgraded to I think MacBook5 or something like that.

Forgive me. I'm trying to find a way to send you a PM, but this site won't let me as I've just found this thread on Google and am a newly registered member (with this being the 2nd post).

Hi Trungy,

Unfortunately it has already been claimed. I have another 2.33ghz which i have yet to remove.

As soon as I remove it I will contact you and its yours.
