i dropped mine last week and it had a very slight crack on the black surround and unless you really looked closely couldn't really tell.

took it to apple and said nothing just wifi keeps dropping and they changed it.

was going to be honest but after hearing that no free replacements any more thought i better see if they notice

So I accidentally flipped an empty cereal bowl onto my iPad 2 after breakfast yesterday (ridiculous, I know), and it cracked the screen in two places. Went to the Apple Store today to see what they could do for me, and they said that ever since they started offering AppleCare+ for the iPhone, they are no longer able to do any free replacements for customers. I know it was completely my fault and will gladly pay to fix it due to that fact, but can anyone confirm this as true? Seems a little weird for Apple to not allow them to do replacements on anything since they only offer the AppleCare+ on the iPhone for now. Thoughts?

Just accept what they said and move on. Posting here will not change anything.

Why on earth did you dig this thread up to say some crap. This thread was dead and happily decomposing and you pull out your shovel and dig it up slap your lips to it and try to blow life into it ............ Wtf

Thanks Arnezie, made my day. Funny as hell!

Get a squaredeal warranty

It replaces any damage like a cracked screen. Covers more than applecare except fir telephone support. I had sd and applecare on my ipad2. When i planned to sell i called sd and cancelled and got a pro rata rebate. Or its transferable. And its well priced.

One thing to remember about Square Trade is that it only covers you one time (one event) then you have to repurchase it for your replacement device that you purchase with their payout. So if you drop the device after 2 weeks and it is dead they will pay you but if you want coverage for the rest of the year for your replacement you have to buy the warranty again.

Also they don't pay for your replacements sales tax so when you buy the replacement it's going to cost you another $40-$60 for sales tax on the replacement. So between the cost of the sales tax & the cost of the warranty purchase TWICE (if you want continued coverage) other options might be better. There also may be a deductible. Always remember, most credit cards give you a 2nd year of warranty for free (but don't cover broken glass or accidental damage).

Does it matter? You're not entitled to a free replacement regardless of what the policy really is because the broken screen was your fault, so just pay for the repair.

Agreed. Sorry OP, but you are gonna have to bite the bullet on this one.

In my experience

In the past 6 months.

I shattered my 64gb iphone 4s front and back and my iPad2. Both incidents were replaced without question. It could have something to do with then 30 products registered under my AppleID which i own. I do not buy AppleCare as I dont use products for more than a year usually. I have found if you go in and act remorseful and just make it known you made a mistake they help you out. Again this is just my experience and I always buy my stuff from the same store .

Its not terribly hard or expensive to replace the screen yourself. Apple charges like ~$250, but if its just the glass portion (the LCD is intact) you can replace that for $70. The LCD is an additional $70.

Unless this is new, Apple doesn't offer repair or replacement of iPad screens. I brought mine into my local Apple store this past fall with a small crack across the bottom corner, hoping they could repair/replace the screen. I was advised they can't replace the screen, showed me the replacement cost (approx. $400.00+, can't remember exactly), but replaced the unit for me free of charge, explaining they have the discretion to replace it one time as a courtesy.

A friend of mine brought his into the local Apple store 2 weeks ago with a completely shattered screen (fell off the counter in the kitchen), explained what happened and claimed responsibility and they also replaced his free of charge. And having dozens of registered Apple product has nothing to do with it as this was the second Apple product he's ever owned.
