iPhone X Cracked my iPhone x

Unfortunately the rear glass or notch sensors are very expensive to replace
best bet is a screen protector and case
But more important is handling this iPhone X with extra care

AppleCare + is worth the money if you plan on keeping the phone 2 years

It's personal preference if Applecare+ is worth it or not. I keep my phones for 2 years and haven't bought insurance for any phone because I'm careful and I haven't broken a phone since buying my first one over 10 years ago.
 
No insurance, no apple care, no case. Just a warning. Ive never seen something crack so easily from being iPhone owner since 2007!

Those advising what I should have done, I don't like screen protectors, cases or anything that goes with it. If it breaks I need to fix and not moan.

I have had it replaced and registered it with my bank for insurance, moving forward it should prevent any huge costs and I learnt a lesson 🙂

It's not just that. Their repair needs to have a cheap method to replace the back or front glass.
That price is ridiculous.

If you look at the tear down videos you’ll see some of the reasons for the Hugh repair cost for the rear.

Just get apple care. It's not adding another large expense to an already overpriced very expensive phone..

Apple can do no wrong.
It's not their fault they built such a fragile and unrepairable device.
Just give them more money.

And you've probably come way ahead over the years because of it. Most people won't crack their phones. Insurance is sort of a waste of money if you're generally careful.
 
Step #1: purchase iPhone

Step #2: purchase AppleCare Plus

Step #3: purchase case or skins or screen protector, whatever else suits, or nothing at all

Step #4: enjoy the new iPhone!
 
My hubby's iPhone X and mine drop a couple times a day. We use cases so our phones are still pristine even after all those drops. No offense to OP, but I don't get it why so many ppl are yelling about getting their phones naked then complain about how fragile their phones are. Once go naked, you drop it you break it. Why is it so hard for ppl to understand?

You should have known about the repair cost before you bought. It was no secret so it’s your fault for buying a phone with such a high repair cost. 😛

There really isn't such thing as a 'cheap method'. It's if the device can be repaired or not in general. The reason it's expensive for the repair process is due to the sensors and rear glass.

Modular = bigger. You can easily question the thinner/lighter drive, but asking something this size to be as easy to take apart as a Lego kit is unrealistic.
 
To each their own but honestly I’d just live with it. Maybe put it in a case. If it eventually stops working decide to drop the £550 then. No sense in dropping that kind of money for what is, for all intents and purposes, cosmetic damage.

If I had to have a pristine device Id maybe even try and sell the thing. See if you’d lose less selling thisnwith the damage and buying a brand new device.

I do agree that replacement prices are steep. I used to praise Apple for their lovely warranty and repairs. I mean I still do. But you’re not much better off out of pocket with Apple than anyone else anymore. Who remembers when yo I got a brand new phone for $200?

I realize that the design requires essentially the entire device to be replaced. To me that’s a design flaw, or at least a really big compromise. At this rate if honestly rather say screw the water resistance and just give me something a little more reasonable to repair. If I was a conspiracy theorist I’d say they want to sell more Apple care lol. I don’t believe that is fully the case anyway. But selling more Apple care doesn’t hurt.

The same thing (i.e., physical shrinkage leading to repairability limitations) has been happening with the Macs. I had a speaker failure last year with my early 2015 13" rMBP and according to the repair slip they replaced half of the computer.

Wake up people!

If you put glass on the front and back you should ensure there is a reasonably cheap method to replace that glass.
If you don't then it's your failure at engineering.

You're getting screwed by Apple and loving it... Defending them...
Wake up! Stop supporting them.

I've always found the Defender to be a well made case, but it's really bigger than I like. I've started using their Synchrony (for the wife's X) and the Commuter for mine. Slimmer but still adequate protection. My wife has a habit of dropping her phone (she's dropped the X 3 times since owning it on our ceramic tile floor and no damage to it). We also use the glass screen protectors.

Yeah the Defender makes my iPhone X look really thick and feel very heavy. I find it very comfortable to grip though. I’m so used to a Plus sized iPhone at this point.

I think Apple sucks for making the phone so difficult to repair at a reasonable price. You really must get Applecare on your X unless you are wealthy.

But, it also helped out when I only had to pay $49 to replace my Apple Watch after a mountain bike accident this summer, and $79 a few years ago to replace my 5s when I closed my electric rear hatch on my Subaru with the phone in the way.

I preferably don't use cases, but when I work, I use a case similar to OtterBox, the protection is easily worth it, especially given what the repair costs are for the iPhone X, even with AppleCare.

Oh man. Out of curiosity, as a Subaru owner, was that really the electric motor closing the rear hatch, or did you close it yourself?
