Wasn't it a big issue with the X last year as well?
Yes it was, but in the forum no-one has this problem. I will go to the Apple Store next Saturday to replace the device and take another one new.

I had this problem with my 8+ last year. Brought it to apple store and they replaced it. Heard it again on my replacement phone and the specialist told me that an update was coming to fix it and if that didn’t work, they would replace it again. Thankfully it worked :)

I think this isn't a software problem due to nobody reported it here. Thanks for your answer!

Yes. I have the same problem and started a thread about it. Others have it as well. I came to the conclusion that it’s a firmware problem.

Last year there was a similar problem with iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, not X as someone wrote here. It was a firmware problem.

And the solution is? Replace the device?

No, I decided to keep mine. The crackling stops after 3-4 seconds and isn’t a big deal. I don’t want to go through the trouble of setting up a new device again. My phone is perfect besides the speaker and I believe it will be fixed in an update.

I received my iPhone Xs yesterday. Set it up last night and had problems with the speaker both when talking and using the speaker to play music. Tried Apple chat support, never got anyone online. Kept getting message "someone will be with you in 2 minutes, an hour later still no one answered. Then called to schedule a call back. Got a call back 30 minutes after the scheduled time. They wanted me to take phone to a genius bar...no Apple store near me. I requested a replacement. That was a huge hassle. Apple wanted phone sent back and then they would process a new order. COULD NOT give me an estimated date I'd get a new phone. I finally got so frustrated after four hours dealing with this I just requested to return the phone. Really disappointed in Apple customer service. Hard to believe they don't hold some phones for customers who pre ordered and got a defective phone. Apple wanted me to wait 2 weeks plus to get a replacement phone while already having my money. Also required me to bring phone to a FEDEX location instead of having it picked up. The crackling was significant. I could barely hear the customer service people and playing music was excruciating. Really disappointed with Apple customer service and the phone. I've been a long time Apple product user.

After having read that I understand that we are talking about different problems. My phone only crackles first 3-4 seconds when making a phone call out. Yours is obviously faulty.

I have had the same issue with crackling/buzzing coming from the earpiece/receiver on my Xs during phone calls and also listening to Videos/Music. I brought my first phone to the Apple Store and they exchanged it for a new one (I had them listen to a piano piece from youtube which really highlighted the issue), unfortunately the new one has the exact same problem. It is worst when the volume is above about 80% but will often persist at lower volumes as well. I tried out some display iPhone Xs's at the Apple Store and a nearby Best Buy and they all had the same problem.

I'm concerned this represents a hardware rather than a software issue. For a phone that costs nearly $1500 after taxes and AppleCare, I would expect more. I think I'll have to return it for now and see if this can get corrected with an update or some other fix; I would hate to be stuck with such an expensive phone that is doing a poor job of being a phone.

There was actually an article on MacRumors about speaker problems with the iPhone X posted November 2017.

I have a 7 days iPhone XS and I noticed the same problem, but only during the chimate. I think it's a software problem that can be solved with an update (I hope), because the music, whatsapp voice messages, voice memos etc. They have a clean sound. If it were a hardware problem, I think everything would be bad.

For me I can reproduce the problem without being in a call. This was the audio I used to illustrate the problem to the Apple Genius
the trouble happens within the first minute and a half if the volume on the device is higher than 80%. Before listening to this song and songs similar to it, I thought I only had a problem during calls.

yes, even me 3-4 days ago I listened to the same video. With the maximum sound you can feel some vibrations in the background, but I think it's normal, because the phone's sound is very loud.
Try listening to the difference between the maximum audio in the call and the audio of a voice whatsapp; in the call you immediately perceive the disturbance, while in the audio whatsapp everything is clean.
If there was a problem with the hardware, I think you should feel the problem in both cases; also because in the call I hear it clearly even if I put the volume at 50%, in the audio of Whatsapp despite 100% the audio is very clean. So I do not know ... this is my idea ...

Hi,

I have exact the same issue. I was trying to get some help from Apple support. They sent me to an authorized reseller who was not able to help me. They did just a standard audio hardware check and said that "everything seems to be ok". No, it's definitely not ok!

Did you guys somehow solve this issue in the meantime? This rattle is very annoying. I've been trying several things to stop it but didn't have any success yet.

Everyone please try this and see if you’re having this issue in connection to yours:

Call your device and make sure the vibrate is on with or without the ringer. Answer your device with your ear to the bottom speaker. Do you hear a crackling or clicking sound? This has to be done by listening to the bottom speaker at the exact moment you answer your phone.

No, I am not able to notice what you described. However, I still have this annoying crackling sound whenever I am in a call. Any ideas?

I have the same issue since the beginning on my iPhone XS. Has anyone found a solution ? This is an extremely expensive device and it shouldn’t have such annoying issues. Kindly help. Has anyone updated to the iOS 12.1.1 beta? Does it solve the problem?

Haven't installed iOS 12.1.1 beta yet but would be interested to see if it solves the problem. But to be honest, I doubt it.

Have you raised a support case with Apple support? If not, I would highly recommend it to make them aware of this annoying issue. I will hopefully hear more from Apple on Friday this week.

Same for me. Bought the iPhone XS last week, had this buzzing issue therefore I asked for a new one. Today the new one just arrived and it has the same issues. Looks like this has to be a software thing or a major hardware issue...

I’ve also posted on the apple thread just to make them aware that it’s not a strange issue.

Hi!
What's going on with Apple?
I've finally get a physical damage free iPhone XS, which is great.
Now, after a couple of phone calls noticed this crackling sound coming from the earpiece while on calls.
After that, noticed it happen while listening to music and on Youtube, but strangely, it is only noticeable if you hear some piano tunes.
It is clear!
After some searching, noticed there are lots of people affected by it even with iPhone X.
What is ubelievable is that it is a recurring issue that lasts at leas one year.
Read some people talking about a fix coming on future iOS updates, but I seriously doubt this to be a software issue (if it was, why didn't Apple solved this both on XS and specially on the X, lauched a year ago?).
I am seriously thinking on returning it for good and play the waiting game till next September.
What is your experience on this?
Is you iPhone affected?
