I should last and not crack like this! It must be a design fault. Im trying to sell it on eBay or give it away. Remember that i paid a lot for it and taken good care of it.

My dads lousy old laptop (acer) doesnt crack to pieces, so again this must be a known design flaw

It's one piece of plastic that forms the base of a lever right at the fulcrum. 5 years of wear from opening it is going to cause this. It sucks, but it's kind of obvious....

1. Put a sticker on it.

2. Use a "skin."

3. Buy a used, but no-crack bottom cover for fix it yourself.

4. Perfect excuse for an upgrade.

Who knows, the cat may had knocked it down and your Mom simply picked it up without knowing anything. Anywhoo, after 5 years, time to get detached and find a new love. :)

Amusing the comments about quality now versus then. Yes, the almighty crackbooks from the Steve era.

It will get worse and eventually large pieces will fall off. I'd just sell it now before that happens.

In response to others, no, it is not a given that plastic will crack with time. I have plastic appliances decades old. It's a matter of material and engineering which Apple failed at many times whether cube or Nano or whatever. I'm glad those days are gone.
