Sporks on Macrumors! Made my day.

I don’t understand the nutty obsession with wanting Mac on an iPad. Probably the same ones that wanted an iPhone mini and then never bought one.

I don't either. It would be a mess. I have both and use them in different environments and scenarios.

I would not want to do what I do on my Mac to instead do it on my iPad. I think those wanting that are just looking for a cudgel to take yet another swing at Apple.

Apple did their research.

I think for a large majority of users that have been harping on this, the windowing they announced for iPadOS 26 is going to do the trick. Running macOS on an iPad could be sorta cool in some ways, I suppose, but the whole thing would need to be reworked for big fingers that are much less precise than a pointer. The UI elements simply don't work as is.

Poor Criag. Apple chose him to be in front of the firing squad for all of Apple's screwups the last couple years.

Claiming the iPad multitasking is something that they "needed to keep experimenting with" is the ultimate flop of a PR statement. The truth is they didn't want to canibalize Mac sales. Until now for whatever reason.

But now they are bringing full multitasking to the lowest end iPads....which completely contradicts that. Kinda seems like Apple is getting desperate to just sell any product they can.

All these years and all these excuses and now the $329 iPad runs full multitasking....yet a 2 year old iPhone "can't run" Apple Intelligence .

I also recall apple using the same BS line when stage manager was released and magically they were able to make it work on older iPad Pros after people went nuts.

Apple seems ...really really lost. I hope they find their way and get back on track.

Also Joz has become like this arrogant, evil big brother who looks like he was about to slap Craig if he didn't say the right thing or spin a question properly during all these interviews.

I agree but also think Apple can make more money - of course.

There's very little in iPad Pro large screen size with keyboard vs a MacBook Air - i had both and thought 'what am i doing' and stuck with the MacBook as it was more powerful.

I agree with Craig here. Seriously, no sarcasm.

The iPad screen is just too small. Even Stage Manager isn't fun on that thing. I've seen the ad for multitasking and I'm horrified. I already know I'll never use it.
On a big screen, yes. But on my 11" iPad? Never.

The iPad is and will ever be more similar to a smartphone than a full computer.
Many other companies have tried to publish a "full computer tablet".
No one has been made it.

But I'm open to being convinced:
Dear editors, publish an article. What MacOS would look like on the iPad and how people should use it.
Comfortable, ergonomic, and productive.

FWIW, I still think the iMac and the laptops should at least have some sort of touchscreen capability, or at least Apple Pencil support for the graphic design community.Be able to use Photoshop or something with the built in screen. Bring back the G4 iMac style with moveable screen.

I have been using the developer beta for iPad OS 26 on my 13" M4 Pro and I really like the new multitasking capabilities. I do not understand why they kept Stage Manager at all though, I would have preferred to keep slide over if I wanted to use one of the old multitasking models. Stage Manager was just not very useful. I look forward to seeing what the current direction matures into though, as I much prefer how my iPad functions with 26.

He said it: app developers, including Apple themselves, will just design apps for the "Mac-like" use case of the iPad, not for the handheld, touch, magical device use case. Sad.

Sporks on Macrumors! Made my day.

And I'm not sure why it was ridiculed. I kind of like sporks. But I don't want to run MacOS on my iPad.

I think we’re more likely to see Macs get touch screen for keyboard and trackpad (and other functions), down the road. macOS and apple silicon are robust enough for all sorts of creative ways to use an large multitouch area, instead of the traditional keyboard/trackpad configuration.

I hope Federico can maintain objectivity over time.

😐

He's starting down the path Gruber was on way back when.

The "access" with Apple can be intoxicating -- especially for what it does for your business engagement.
