So i am selling my ipad mini, the guy agreed on the price but only wants to use paypal. Is this scam... I think it is because he uses hotmail as his email who uses hotmail anymore?

am i wrong?

I texted him that and am waiting for a answer. Also I forgot to mention he said he's shipping it to his brother in Africa.

Might as well be selling it to a Nigerian prince.

Hotmail = scam is a bad assumption.

Heck, I still use AOL but only because I've had the email address since 2000. Shipping to Africa raises a red flag. Your gut feeling raises a red flag. I've accepted PayPal for purchases before. I always make sure that they send it and PayPal says it's good before I hand over but with this large of an item, I'd be skeptical.

He may be wanting to use PayPal because of either Smart Connect or Pay Later, whatever they call it now. But I think you are right to avoid it.

Told him to send me a picture of his brother in Africa. LOL!!!

Oh hell yes. Charge 1500 for a device that will be outdated in a few weeks.

It's not a bad assumption. Who honestly uses hotmail anymore.

I don't think you understand. Nigerian prince = scam, not inflate the price.

Who still uses Yahoo, AOL, Live mail? If someone inquires about my listing (and I use Craigslist a lot) and emails me from Hotmail without sounding suspicious, damn right I'm going to respond.

Assumed they were the same as dubian princes. Well thanks for that.

I wouldn't bother engaging in irrelevant conversation. It doesn't matter what their intentions are with the computer once it is theirs. What matters is that you avoid a probable scam. If you are meeting in person to exchange the item, there isn't any reason not to use cash. Meet in public or better yet at a bank, and make the exchange for cash.

Or a supposed Apple reseller.

OP, don't do it. There are two red flags, shipping to his brother out of the country (no one cares and that detail is unnecessary on CL), and PP on CL. CL is for local peer to peer sales only.

I've done PayPal for virtual sales (like codes) on CL before. Also had a certified check, although most people, myself included, prefer cash.
If you've got squilly telling you its a bad idea... it might be a really bad idea.

Here to help :) ;)

I still use hotmail as my main account LOL. Thanks for making me feel so good inside.
Never wanted to mess with changing accounts because so many things are already linked to it.

These are classic examples of a scam. Don't waste any more of your time.

I've used Craigslist on several occasions and never had a problem. However, you need to do it smart. Always meet in a public place and only take cash.

I knew it was probably was spam. Just wanted a second opinion and I was right.

Ask for cash, and meet in a crowded place, or better near a police station.
And bring a friend or two.

PayPal's not a red flag in itself if the guy isn't local enough for it to be worth a trip. Although, the shipping to Africa bit is the beginning of a scam.
