People are amazed by many things. That doesn't make it true. If the internals were at risk by 100C heat, then Apple engineers would have built the machine to keep the temperature lower.
I'm no fan of Rossman, but he does have a point and he's pointing out that high temps are responsible for failures.
Here's what

Back to the OP's dilemma. Does anyone know anything about that mixer.com? I had one of those streams (Robeyonekenobi "Anthem with the Boys) running for about 30 mins while out shoveling snow and when I returned the machine was still at 55c. I tried opening the 4 player split screen into 4 separate windows and enlarging them to split screen. But I am not at all familiar with the site and have no idea what I am supposed to be watching there :)

Can you tell me what is your machine and what OS are you running on what browser?
My MBP '15 would almost idle on 45C, its almost impossible to stream video at 55C. Do you live in super cold weather?

It's almost as if you'd need to be somewhat cognizant of both the CPU temperature and the system temperature.

(The CPU is obviously fine at 100C, but the system overall is obviously not fine at 100C throughout).

My exact thoughts, the CPU might make it but you never know what wire will melt or glue will come off.

TBH I always see people mentioning their fear on the absurd heat on the MBPs and how its not good for the machine, yet I've NEVER seen a post or news from ANYONE actually experiencing a heat related death of their MBP or other machine (and this forum is very notorious when it comes to issues concerning apple products).

Wouldn't there be like thousands of threads if heat damage/heat death would really be a problem or concern? I mean we have already issues like failing keyboards, kernel panics, crackling speakers, stage light ... why no heat related issue?

I think they might have, but they don't associated it with the heat. For example they might think its a keyboard malfunction, motherboard failure, broken screen, etc... in reality the heat might have caused it.

My MBP is a 2018 15" i9/32/V20 model. OS is 10.14.4 Beta 3. I have used both Safari Technology Preview and Vivaldi to visit the site. My idle temps while typing this are like yours about 45C, which is exactly what it is at the moment. It is cold here at the moment 12F. Room temp is 68F. Yesterday outside temp was about 28F when I was running it.

I am still not sure what I am supposed to be doing on that site. Just going to top streams and clicking one? Ran another today this one got a little warmer at 58C. Did find an IMJAHOVA one that got my temp up to 71C

Well, I lost any credibility in Rossmann after one of his MBP reviews where he was demonstrating USB/WiFi interference and vocally complaining about bad Apple's engineering, without mentioning that this is a well known and documented issue between USB3 and 2.5Ghz WiFi that affects a wide range of devices. Something that he, as a computer repair professional should have certainly known.

But the real killer is him admitting to smuggling counterfeit, uncertified and potentially dangerous laptop batteries and selling them to his customers. And then when the customs seized one of the illegal shipments he made a huge headlines selling himself as a warrior for justice and repair being mobbed by Apple who apparently controls the US government (https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/9pow06/louis_rossmann_admits_to_using_parts_from_a/)

Rossmann is just a guy who makes money repairing Apple stuff and his fame comes from badmouthing them. He is an intelligent and technically adept person and uses this to selectively present information in order to manipulate the viewer and increase the hype. Its great advertisement for him, plus nice additional revenue via Youtube.

Disregarding the fact that Rossman is a manipulative and dishonest person, I wouldn't be surprised if that particular bit was true. There are not many shops that offer affordable component-level repairs for laptops, so its not strange if many cases they get are repairs deemed impossible or uneconomical by other shops.

I don't know about dishonest, but some of his rants are pretty far out there. Especially a few when he may have been drinking. Entertaining though.

most shops don't do component board level repair, because it's too difficult for them, you need a lot skills, experience and have ability to read the logic board schematics, it's a difficult job and most people aren't cope to do that, also you can do easier job (like for example plumber or joiner) and get similar money or even more

Just go to any live stream and click on it and after like 1 minutes your CPU heat should build up.

I looked at my activity monitor and it said
mixer.com 50% CPU
VTDecoderXPCService 50% CPU

I'm streaming the Samsung media event and I'm seeing temps in the high 50s, with it just broaching 60c and then fans ramp up a bit and cool the temps. I'm using a Thinkpad 1X Extreme, I only say this to point out temps approaching 100c for streaming just doesn't seem right.

I streamed else where and temps don't rise that much... just on mixer

Oh, so its a mixer thing, I didn't realize. Let me play with that, any specific settings or videos that you would recommend to test out the temps?

I still don't know if I am doing something wrong on this site, because mixer.com would just be a website right? When I look at the activity monitor there is no listing for mixer.com, just the browser, which uses the majority of CPU. VTDecoderXPCService service barely using any CPU.

Do you have to subscribe? Not gonna do that.

no, you just go to the site click a video and watch the stream... you should soon notice the temperature building up. Check few videos if you don't notice it...

I just popped into Mixer and watched a handful of videos for almost 5 minutes, my temps didn't exceed 61c (floated in the mid to upper 50s mostly). Granted, I'm running on a thinkpad X1E and its cooler then a MBP but your temps still don't seem normal.

Maybe the outside temperature has an affect. I am in a temperature of around 25-30C

That certainly is a factor and one that I cannot help duplicate. Being in Boston, in the dead of winter, my house is currently a comfy 17c Quite a bit cooler then what you're seeing.

Just to throw this out there for you re: chrome.

By default (at least in the more recent versions of chrome) if you have a dedicated graphics card, it will be utilized (on battery power, or plugged in). This is one of the main reasons that chrome is a battery hog, and most people don’t even realize it’s there. I just happened to stumble across it one day.

yes it is well known issue but apparently apple still designs the chassis on the way that wifi antennas are close to the ports suffering the interference. i have a windows laptop and it never suffers this issue. why? antennas are placed inside the display, top part of the display, rather than near the ports as it is in macbooks. that is the problem with macbooks - poor design that affects the whole performance.

Rossmann was right when complaining the interference and certainly knew it and wanted to demostrate the issue.

My temps are reflected in SDColorado's. About 60-65c - only a few degrees hotter than just normal web browsing. Fan noise is basically inaudible. Ambient temp is around 72-74f.

And I never experienced this issue with any of my Macs. Whether you see it or not has little to do with the computer design and everything with unique circumstances. I’m pretty sure at least some people have had similar issues with your laptop model. Even my router, with its antennas miles away from USB ports has the option to disable usb3 since it has known incompatibility with ac WiFi networks.

And no, Rosmann was not right since he didn’t point out it’s a general problem. He tried to sell it’s as an Apple-only problem. He even brought in a dell laptop to demonstrate that it didn’t have interference issues - completely neglecting to mention that many users have been complaining about the same issue with the very same dell laptop. It’s blatant manipulation, plain and simple.

yeah, sure... place wifi antennas on the ports and say ”it has nothing to do with the design if there is an issue with the interference”. seriously?

what do you think might be differend when in the same environment the macbook suffered the interference while the dell didnt? nothing to do with the design and shielding??

which MBP and OS version are you using?

I am using safari, I tried Firefox..same thing. Temp reached 100+C

And what if I told you that there are instances where a Dell does suffer the interference and the MBP doesn’t? This all has as much to do with the usb device itself, the cables, the properties of the room and the ambient electromagnetic radiation. That’s what I mean when I say that the interference curcumstances are unique in each case.

In fact, the only time I’ve ever experienced interference of this kind was with a Lenovo laptop (some kind of thinkpad). And I don’t see myself complaining how thinkpads are crap because they don’t use proper shielding. It is an unfortunate fact that USB3 can produce frequency interference and if you want to blame someone for it, do blame the USB consortium for not catching this. Complaining about the implementier because of flaws in the standard is ridiculous.
