Here's what I'm thinking now...
If I were to get an Air to accompany my MBP, I would specifically set each aside for certain tasks. This way, I don't have to worry about data syncing, keeping 2 sets of apps updated (for the most part), and I can have my school work separate from my personal hobbies, web surfing, etc. It sounds great. Except, I'd look kind of bad having two laptops juggling around in my dorm. It is REALLY tempting though...

I'm currently in college, also studying Computer Science (4th year). I've used my white 2007 macbook for the majority of college and it's served me well.

If I were in your position, I would swap out the 15" MBP's hd with a SSD (for reliability) and just use that as your main computer for everything. I used to go to the CS lab and use their computers but eventually almost everyone ends up bringing their own laptops.

If weight is an issue, get the 13" MBA. Then for your dorm get a nice 30" monitor or something.

I have gone ahead and bought a Crucial 256GB SSD with transfer kit for $375. I plan on using my current hard drive as an external portable for backups. After this upgrade, I've basically completely upgraded my MBP, so I intend to keep it for 4 years and save up for the next big thing after I graduate. (as far as computer hardware)

I'm a little late to this thread, but what about selling your MBP and going the iMac + MBA combo?

Edit: Turns our I'm too late!
