The extra $22.50 that you're paying per month (the $450 subsidy amortized over the 20 month upgrade life) is worth it, then, I hope.

at&t ftw!

Boom.

Checkmate...

I have a dumbline I used to upgrade my iPhone 5, sold my old phone so the total cost of keeping my unlimited is $457 total cost(including the $10 a month for my dumb line) for my 64GB iPhone 5!

Well worth it to keep unlimited!

Data (MB): 21.83 of 3,072
Data (MB): 212.1 of 3,072 (Deactivated)

Here is what AT&t is telling me. You guys got me confused: what are my looking at right now (I only have 3gB of data per month...)

I dont think it is. I've reset mine and left it connected to wifi and just tried loading up a lot of apps, pulling data down from servers, but this data isnt being added to the data usage.

Edit:

Actually, leaving on wifi, it still pulling in cellular data. Minimal, but pulled in 30kb in the last 10 minutes. Hardly 500mb, but still interesting.

even when on Wifi, the iOS keeps push connections live using the data network. Apparently Apple believes this is better when wifi, so when you get out of wifi coverage, the iphone never actually loses the connection with the push server.

Yes, but what you fail to realize is that your comments are entirely irrelevant to this thread/topic. Pipe down.

All these threads are hilarious.

Not a problem for those of us with unlimited.

lol exactly.

Don't be mad at him for it. You guys KNEW that the data speeds would be faster, thus concluding that little 2gb cap limit wont help you in the long run.

But if your wifi is slow, 3g/4g kicks in for it.

I'm on VZW's unlimited plan...it doesn't affect me either way. It would be nice, however, if people like us (unlimited users) stopped cluttering threads up with useless "sucks for you" comments.

This may be obvious, but are those of you who are reporting this problem using iTunes Match?

Others have indicated that even though you start downloading a song over wifi the phone will switch to cellular when you break the wifi connection.

Having the same issue. My Cellular Usage on my iPhone (in Settings) is showing 700 MB received since Friday (note that there is a discrepancy somewhere, because My Verizon reports that I currently have used 438 MB of data). I don't stream much video or any music. Mostly just check Facebook, Twitter, look at a couple of web pages. I DID run a SpeedTest 2-3 times on Saturday which accounts for a nice chunk of data on My Verizon, but the largest chunks from that date on the Verizon report show 4:27 AM. Is the timing on these reports off? I was definitely asleep at the time.

Also, at least once a day the My Verizon report shows a 10-30 MB usage and I can't figure out what this is. This occurrs even before I got my new iPhone 5. I'm definitely not downloading apps every day or streaming video/audio. Any idea what these could be? Is there an app that tells you which apps are using how much data?

I'm confused and really don't want to bust over my 2 GB limit on the first month off of unlimited data.

I remember checking my iPhone 4's Cellular Usage before I switched phones and I think I used 2 GB of data in like 6 months. What the hell is going on?!?!

Settings -> General -> About -> Diagnostic and Usage at the bottom. Make sure that's set to Don't Send. Otherwise it will upload a few megs of stuff to Apple every night. A co-worker had this enabled and roamed out of the country and came back to a lovely data roaming bill.

Guys if you are using iTunes match and you set it to download stuff when you are on WIFI, even if you have it set not to download over cellular it will do it anyway when you leave the wifi connection. I used up half my data for the month in the 15 mins it takes me to walk from my house to the train station and the 10 minutes it takes me to get to my desk from the train station combined. I shut off cellular data altogether until I get back hom on WIFI. Hopefull it will finish downloading all my music and stop eating my lte data.

Having same problem as others here (reported data usage is way out of whack for what I've actually done, probably by a factor of 10), and I don't use iTunes Match.

My phone says I have received 2.9 GB of data since Friday, but AT&T says I have only used 225 MB. I'm not sure why there's such a big difference.

Does anyone else have this problem? I've surfed the web for about 20 minutes total over the past 2 days yet my iPhone says I've used 350mb! Even on wifi! However Verizon says I've only used 170. My sister has had the 4s for the same amount of time as I had the 5 and she only used 40mb!

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've noticed that too. I think there's a bug with the counter. I noticed the amount the phone reports and then I check my Verizon account--it shows a lower value. I have unlimited data so it doesn't really matter to me :p

It's probably counting wifi and cellular.

Guys, there have already been threads on this.

It's a bug, I confirmed by turning on wifi and watching a few youtube videos, my counter climbed by a few MB. I have called Apple and let them know, and they said I was the first call about it.

You all need to call them because the more input they have, the quicker they will prioritize a fix. Always call to report bugs, it helps them and us.

Mine even started showing "tethered data usage" and I don't have a mobile hotspot activated, plus wifi and bluetooth were both off. I called Verizon and they had no activity, yet the phone started counting all data as tethered. When I hung up from Apple, the tethered data had magically reset to zero....then went away after restarting the phone.

Don't trust the usage meter, it's a bug in iOS6.

And above all...call Apple, all of you!!!

its not a bug. If your phone has low wifi connection.. it gauges the 3g/4g network [whichever you're in and is strongest] and uses it. Obviously this isnt the case if you're downloading 50mb apps or something

I said $22.50, and your actual cost is $22.85/month.

Like I said, if you're happy with a 76% price increase to keep unlimited, more power to you.

Keep unlimited data and never stress...
Or...
Threads concerned about how a network with double the speed doubles your data usage?

Technically my bill is only $9.99 for the other phone after I took the data off that line, bringing my bill to: $129.99.

My bill before.. $89 unlimited talk & text. $30 data.

I have LTE turned off, and I doubt my 3g is stronger than wifi. I also know this because my phone was showing the data usage, but Verizon was not. The 220+mb of data my phone said I used was actually only 39mb when checking with Verizon.

And that doesn't count the times where "tethering data usage" shows up and starts counting ALL of my data usage as tethered....pretty hard to do with no hotspot activated.

----------

Speak of the devil, the "tethered data usage" just showed up again under the cellular usage counters. It's counting all data and cellular data is staying at zero.

Pretty hard to do with:
1. no hotspot activated
2. wifi off
3. bluetooth off

Yet it keeps counting as I do things....amazing eh?

Very odd..
5qSN3O.jpg

but on the iPhone 5.. it says
Sent "36 MB"
Received "208 MB"

Oh yeah.. I just happened to got kicked off WiFi too. Didnt even notice till now.. it was 198 MB, went to 208 MB in just a few minutes.

Odd. Think I'm going to go get a replacement or something because i'm having WiFi issues (turning off by itself or something).

EDIT - Now it's saying unable to join my WiFi router connection at home. WTF.
