I live in NYC so please point me to an AT&T, Verizon, or TMobile deal where you can get a S7/S8, Pixel, or other premium Android phone for practically free.

I wish to avail myself of their largesse. :D

(Sprint and lesser carriers need not apply.)

I work in many schools throughout a given month, and almost all of the other staff members have iPhones. Phones students use are more evenly split, but I still see more iPhones.

Buying one to get one free isn't exactly the same as what you originally typed about "carriers giving them away for practically free".

By the same token, I think there was an iPhone promo (for a short while)...where you could get a ip7 for free if you bought one at full price (with a new plan of course).

I know this sounds crazy, but I literally don't know anyone my age that doesn't use iPhone.

I hangout in college a lot and everyone has iPhone.

In fact, I don't think I've even seen any other device on campus.

(It'd be nice to spot a Galaxy S8 in the wild though)

The benefits of being on your parents' cellphone plan. Wait until they get out into the real world and need to spend their own $$ on an iphone then the value proposition changes.

12 of us at work (ages 30-52, all fairly high income) - 4 iPhone users (myself included) and 8 Android. Used to be 7 iPhone users a while ago so, at my work at least, the trend is definitely pointing towards Android.

In all fairness, a lot of people wind up staying with an iPhone when they strike out on their own.

My brother and his family are all Android. What's interesting is that his kids got their parents onto Android.

In contrast, my two sisters (and their families) are on iOS. (Although my nephew and one brother-in-law have talked about going Android).

I'm a latecomer since I got my first and only smartphone ( a 6s) in Sept 2015.

Takes all kinds.

Local sprint is still offering the buy one get one 'free' iPhone as well as on major androids makes. With public schools switching over to chrome books in every kids hands I wonder how long iPhones will still be in the hands of most kids. I have kids and they have a lot of friends and most of them are all talking about leaving iOS to better integrate their devices with chrome books to make heir life easier. Admins at schools are almost all iOS the kids are about 50/50 split as others mentioned but most of them are already talking about getting an android. It can depend as well like others said depend on your locale greatly too.

How many different people with their phones out do you come across in a day?
Judging by that number can you suggest that because you saw most people use this or that brand more than another?
Does that guess come close to the millions of smartphone users throughout the US for example?
Or worldwide?

I honestly see a lot of Samsung Galaxy devices. Likewise I see plenty of iPhones. My completely unscientific reasoning wants to say that I see more iPhones than any other phone.

However, since getting an Android phone I have become much more aware of the amount of folks that use Android devices. A lot! Observational bias. :p

I do tend to notice people's phones, I'd estimate that I see around 70 / 30 in favor of iPhones these days. (Totally anecdotal observation, of no scientific value!)

here in sonora CA i see a lot of iphone user my self has well i see vary little android user here in my town

I would say in my work I see a single iPhone for every 10 Androids, of my daughters and their friends I would say of 50 people there might be 4 or 5 with them ( all college age ) and when I head to visit them and see students and faculty I would estimate maybe 20% with iPhone. now I agree I see far more in N.Y. and for some reason Seattle but I see even less in some parts of Europe and Asia where I can go 3 or 4 days without seeing a single one.

Where do you live? In an alternate universe?

Walking around and taking the subway in New York City I probably see 1 android for every 10 iPhones. Most people all ages are using iPhones and carriers/stores are usually having promotions practically giving android phones away for free

They probably live in Mountain View Ca. and work for Google lol.

I ride NYC subway and I would say it's a 50/50 split.

At the end of the day they are giving away a free phone arguably the most popular and newest android phone which just came out a few weeks ago. That was just one example there are tons of other offers for free android phones, even without having to buy one. Albeit not one of the flagship devices but there are 100s of android devices to just a couple of iPhones. so who can really track this stuff anyway

Wow I'm surprised. I literally haven't seen androids.

Every single person has an iPhone from what I've seen.

Maybe it's because there's no android stores here.

Where exactly do you live? You have no Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile (insert any other carrier), Best Buy, etc. stores where you live? Heck I live in flyover country South Dakota and we have carrier and other electronics stores all over that sell Android phones. I find it hard to believe you live in a city with only an Apple store and no other phone vendors. Besides there aren't any "Android" stores.

Sometimes I don't know if we should take your posts seriously or not.

I hardly see Android phones nowadays, but if I do see one, it's a Samsung device. Now, that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I text someone and it was green.

Mostly iPhones here. I hang out with middle age soccer moms. So cal.
