I'd just schedule an appointment to get it fixed. My sister-in-law had some dead pixels on her MacBook's screen. After I convinced her to go get it fixed (she thought it was her fault!) it came back with a creaky hinge. Again, I told her that it needed to be fixed. It was, and now she's happy again.

Spoke to someone in Apple CR.. They're convinced that a very creaky hinge is within specification? Surely if an issue isn't widespread, it's not acceptable and should be fixed...

I have the same model as you, mine doesn't creak unless I move the hinge very, very, very slowly and it'll make a "crack" sound rather than a creak.

PS: I could be wrong but the sound you posted sounds more like the plastic clutch cover than a hinge. Mine makes noise from time to time, it's just the plastic shifting.

What did you do to get banned from the apple store.

LOL! I inappropriately touched a Genius <3 Jk ;)

Nah, it's because the case is so big, it took the Head Genius an hour just to read the notes the first time, so I'm not allowed to do it for THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. Should've pointed that out lol.

Just realised that all these problems are to do with the same machine. That sucks dude. It does sound like they should just replace it.

As a side note, I bought my girlfriend (now wife) a 13 uMB and noticed how stiff the hinge was compared to my 15 uMBP. Now that I think about it, the 13 hinge creaks like yours. However, I saw that as a bonus and thought my 15 was flawed as the top closes too easily if you sit it up on your knees while in bed. Strangely, because of that stiffness the 13 feels sturdier and of a better build quality. Think hard before changing, you might not appreciate a stiff hinge 'til it's gone.

That last sentence sounded really dirty.

Lol...

I spoke to a senior technical support agent, he told me that the hinge itself appeared as normal (when it would fall, how strong it was etc) but the noies is unacceptable, so I don't know.

Just wanted to let you guys know, that Apple ER have officially agreed to replace my MacBook Pro free of charge. They're even upgrading me to the 2.66Ghz Core i7!

It may have taken 5 months, but at least I've finally got a resolution. For those of you whom are wondering about replacements, mine took 4 major repairs. I didn't even have to ask, just got a phone call this morning and she said "Good News! As this hinge is having issues, we're going to replace the machine"

Thank you all for your input!

They upgraded mine to Core i7 too! But they didn't tell me... they offered me the replacement too, I didn't ask. (well I asked after the 2nd inspection but they said No.)

Is just shows that after a long, long wait Apple will treat you well!

I'm really pleased for you, the new unit if fantastic!

Thanks for reassuring me. I think she upgraded me to the i7 because it matches the clock speed of my current unit. I was just sat there going "Keep you mouth shut... Do not say a word" xD

She said it normally takes a week for the whole process (For me to be called by the courier, have it picked up and have new one delivered to me). What was your experience?

My etyrn experience was fairly bad TBH. It took the courrier 3 days to contact ne, after I prompted Apple that it had not been collected 'within 2 days' like he said. After apple recieved it they said it will take 3 days to get the replacement. 5 days had passed and nothing. The reps were not replying to my emails or letting me know what's going on. A week after I sent it in I was told it may take 2 weeks. 11 days after apple received it I called apple again, they said they will call me back.

The next day I had a tracking number. I had to ring TNT as it was still in China. It came today though it was expected to arrive tomorrow.

Overall I've had a bad experience with the whole process. I'm just pleased I have a Mac (and a good one at that!). Apple are still (suppose) to contact me tomorrow to discuss 'compensation' which I assume will be a free iPod,I'm not going to ask for much more since they upgraded the processor.

Whatever they give me, will go straight on eBay. The Money from the sale will buy an apple BT keyboard to go with my Mstand ( which is fantastic, it really changes the appearance of my mac, making it look even more superior). Any money left over will most likely go towards external monitor.

Keep us updated! You'll be proud of the i7 :)

That sucks.. And the compensation will probably be a free case or something, maybe AppleCare xD I wouldn't expect an iPod (maybe a shuffle ^^). Hope for the best!

I will keep you updated, thanks for the response.
