I will definitely look into purchasing one as long as it has two cameras for spatial video, though I will hate giving up the telephoto lens. I will also miss Face ID. I dislike touch ID since it only works about half the time for me.

What a pointless product. This foldable fad will disappear before long, its fate to be shared with that of the Plus, Air, and Mini.
How is having a screen almost 2x the size that’s always in your pocket pointless? If you haven’t owned one you wouldn’t know how game-changing they feel. These are the future imo

If the inner screen is like iPadOS you’ll be able to have a whole computing ecosystem in your pocket, with a decently sized screen and large keyboard for easy typing, which could then also be cast to a bigger display

Yes. One would assume Samsung would save those displays for its own foldable phones.
Apple probably patented whatever solution they’ve come up with (if it’s real). Maybe Apple will let Samsung license it ha

The device nobody wants - just like the Vision Pro. Given media consumption on a folding phone is marginally better than a normal 'max' phone, unless this thing morphs into ipadOS when it is opened up with windows etc. it's going to suffer the same fate as the Vision. Nice idea, nobody will buy it.
My thoughts are, it’s going to have to have multitasking of some kind given the screen size and the competition. And considering Apple just significantly updated multitasking on iPadOS, it’s logical that they would bring that over

They might even branch this off into it’s own operating system, FoldOS or something, with apps specifically designed for it’s form factor, but the ability to also use regular iPhone apps

As an international traveler, I do not desire a gimmick cellphone when out in the "sticks" in African countries. A proven design is the current slab phone without lots of bells and whistles. All gimmicks disabled as there are no services for them in rural areas. One sees lots of "mature" flip phones from decades ago.....

Back in the day, a British MG customer was wise to buy their home next door to a MG mechanic.

Apple stores in rural Africa are as about abundant as the promised AI for my iPhone 16 at the 2024 years introduction of that device. Then the promise was the next quarter, the next quarter etc and now the iPhone 17 is out and still no operational AI.

Does seem like two model years of misleading product promises. All I politely can say is nuts to Apple's advertising and the every growing aromatic discoloration of all of the local fan blades.

But at least Timmy is getting lots of travel miles in his private corporate jet we customers are all paying for.....

Laggards will always exist - people asking others to use a smartphone as a pure phone and also shouting at the clouds.

The rest of us have been eagerly waiting for an Apple foldable for such a long time.
I was put off at the thought of the crease. In fact that was the reasoning I dismissed buying a folding phone.

But then a co-worker bought one and I had an up close and personal experience with it.

Now after three months of owning my Galaxy Z Fold7, I have a completely different opinion on folding phones. The crease isn't an issue. Yes it’s noticeable but not in a way that's detrimental, it's just different.

Durability of the display is amazing, far better than anticipated. It's the first display I haven't used a screen protector on in years. Whatever the specifics of the material Samsung has chosen is very scratch resistant. So far there's no sign of any degradation, scratching or blemishes. It’s pretty amazing.

Another interesting aspect is that I still use and enjoy my iPad mini 7. The Z Fold 7 has its own unique use case.

What this phone has done is increased my interest in the upcoming iPhone Fold, or whatever they name it.

Apple fell for the hype when developing this product and it probably wasn't worth stopping development once they realized it, but this is a failing category. Not many people want a phone that is a lot more expensive and a lot more fragile simultaneously. An incompatible double whammy that will always reduce foldable phones to niche.

Soap bar phones were always superior even in the former age of wacky phones...

I use mine open 80% of the time since I'm in office environment, I don't ever baby my phones but take care of them equally. Insurance always on my foldables.
I have a Torras case with hinge protection on my Fold 7 (and I purchased insurance). Had my first ugly fall a few nights ago. Sounded terrible. Not a scratch!

Waaaay to much focus on "crease free", it is not really a problem for us with a foldable phone of 6th generation already. That is not the reason to buy a foldable phone.
Just remove the annoying "notch" or whatever name, it is the worst hole in all modern smartphones screens.
I need a UI that takes good use of both ways to use it in a efficient way.

Still not convinced of folding phones. I don't feel like carrying something twice as thick, less reliable/robust and far more expensive.

I just don't think Apple can overcome the issues with folding phones.
No, no, the current foldables are as thin as Pro Max, perhaps 1 mm thicker. Also dont feel heavier.
I did not thought that foldables provide a good use case, but after using one assigned chinese foldable phone, I am sold. Reeally game changer. Use it closed for texting, calls, use it open for videos, reading, surfing when having both hands to hold it. It replaced my ipad mini for reading in planes.
Watch a map.
Show photo you just took in the open way and people jaw-drop.
Still like better IOS, but iphone hardware and OS feel a little stuck in the past.

Comparing an iPad Pro 4th Gen (M2) FaceID with iPhone SE 3rd Gen TouchID, the TouchID is waaaaaaaay more reliable for me. The iPad's weekly authentication failure rate is about the same as the total failed TouchID reads on the iPhone since I bought it. Also, TouchID is MUCH better as an NFC paradigm.

I'd happily give up FaceID in exchange for TouchID, and pay a premium to do so on this iPad, it's the worst feature of the device, apart from iPadOS.

Eagerly waiting for the foldable from Apple. Hoping that the internal and external screens will be big, would like to know more about the aspect ratio. Not sure whether it will get a telephoto lens.

Go to my history I JUST posted this…the OS situation will be very interesting. I can def see true multitasking coming to this device over the Pro lines, unfortunately…

The hinge being made with the same material as the SIM ejector tool is a real blast from the past. I remember when all the rumors were about what would Apple use with their exclusive license to that.

Great catch, if true…love these types of finds/attention to detail

They should call it the iPhoneBook

lol good one. I said month ago iPhold

marry the two? iPholdBook?…

Either way, I can see the fold line being more for businessmen with the true multitasking features and Pro line being for videographers/photographers and online personalities…

iFold will sell well. It is Apple!! I bet all of those who have been thinking and speaking negatively will want it when it comes. Apple fold version will be the best one in the folded phone market and sold out.
I fold…
Sure you must be right. Same thing happened with the iPhone air, didn’t it?
Oh, wait..

The Liquid Metal and sapphire display rumors felt never-ending until they one day just stopped popping up.
