as apposed to restarting your iphone you can use SBSettings neat feature of respringing your springboard which should enable the custom sms sound

Good job!

Thank you very much for this guide. The Iphone is a marvelous peace of technology, and being able to change things around make the Iphone very interesting.

your welcome nothing is more important then making your iphone sound and look like how you want it to sound/look

Thanks for the guide, worked perfectly and now i have the metal gear solid codec sound for my texts. :D

I have a question, if you make a custom one, and it goes off, and you open the txt, will it stop playing or does it play out until the end?

if you don't feel like downloading anything, just go to www.audiko.net and you can either upload the song yourself, and choose which part you want as the ringtone, or you can copy and paste the url where the song is at, like if you want a youtube video as your ringtone, you just upload the url onto the site, and then choose which section.. super easy, and you don't have to download anything..and the fact that you can take the audio from a video is cool...and ontop of that, there is already a good selection of ringtones..

yes but audiko.net is for ringtones not custom sms tones

Wow nice post! Will look into it when I have some time. Now, can you share how you made your screen look like that? (Icons only on the sides) :D

download a program through cydia called iBlank i think its through the stefwiz repo but download that to install blank applications so that you can organize your springboard how you like it

anyone have any sms tones they'd like to share? i want to gather all the custom sms sounds and make a huge zip file full of them.

remember though keep them short and sweet.

For all of those who don't want to go through the tedious process of SSHing into your phone (either from laziness or ineptitude) try this:

If your phone is jailbroken, you can download a program in Cydia called ToneFX. After you download the program, you can then go to any Mac or PC and download the computer version for FREE. This simple program on the comp opens up an idiot-proof mp3 loader that can cut any song into a ringtone OR SMS tone of your choice.

Then simply plug your iPhone into the computer, and it is automatically sent to your phone. That's right, no SSH, making a ringtone through any myriad of ways, finding the ringtone or SMS directory, and praying you don't screw something up.

Have to try this! Its great. ToneFX

here you go i hope this is what you are looking for.

took me for ever to find this.

enjoy!!

has anyone tried adding a 7th sms tone?
Nope the number of available tones is limited to six because your only changing the sound, as apposed to adding a new sound I the list.

Its only working with certain songs its pretty annoying any clue?
Songs can't be from iTunes otherwise it won't work.
