Evangelion, you obviously have a gripe about Creative ;) ...is this what you are talking about with Aureal??? I wiki'd Creative Labs...

"Creative dominated the PC audio market and remains unchallenged by a major competitor since the late 1990s which saw a legal tussle between Creative and Aureal Semiconductor.[3] A series of lawsuits was filed by Aureal in 1998 which alleges infringements over various technology patents such as PCI audio and 2D/3D positional sound APIs. Creative responded by counter suing with a series of lawsuits for false advertising and various other claims. Aureal won the case but went bankrupt as a result of legal costs, so its assets were acquired by Creative in September 2000 for US$32 million"

I'm curious, what pocket video camera do you own? I own the Vado HD, and it, by far beats any pocket video camera out-to-date!!! I've already taken it through some serious travel of camping, whitewater rafting, boating, and even Tuna fishing out 60 miles in the Canyons in 4' to 6' seas...i.e the thing has been tossed around like a rag doll. It's the best video camera for light travel! It has a great lens, picks up audio well, and a great resolution for its' size. I would not trade it in....Ever!

I've had a number of Creative products over the years, of all different types. Every single one of them has sucked.
Admittedly, I gave up on their products years ago, so who knows what they have done recently.

I did the same thing with Microsoft years back. When they released Vista, I bought a Vista machine, then returned it, and told myself - "I am done with Microsoft."

...well, Windows 7 is coming out in the fall. It might be a good time to give them a second chance ;)

I still believe Creative has been making some great hardware(especially lately), but no matter what, the software is lacking. So, I can see people not wanting their products for that reason, but there is ways to go around that :D

My Vado HD & Zen X-fi are still in my bookbag everyday. They take up no room, and do a ton of great functions for me everyday. I use them both for work as a Marketing Director in the healthcare industry...I record presentations/lectures with the Zen X-fi microphone, and use my Vado HD in multiple cases for video. They work well for me at work and for my personal use, but maybe not for others...

So then. They try to imitate the best selling consoles ever name? Check. They try to imitate the iPod Touch? Check.
It just doesn't interest me when manufacturers do stuff like this. It might be the best device ever but since they're imitating I just don't really care. Plus all my music/videos are on iTunes and I'm not dropping that for anything.

...don't get me wrong - When the iPod Touch comes out with the videocamera and microphone in the fall, I am sure I will be second guessing my Creative products ;)

I don't think they are imitating the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is just another pda, mid, pocketpc the only diff is Apple got the OS right.

That thing is such a rip off on the the iphone design...pretty lame.
Except that it's not a phone. It runs Android or Creative's own OS. It has a HD camera AND a VGA camera front facing for video chat. It has 10-finger multitouch (the iPhone has 5). WiFi. Bluetooth. GPS, Accelerometer, and a partridge in a pear tree. ;) If you think it's a lame knock-off, then your glasses need cleaning. It's like saying Christina Aguilera is a rip off on Britney Spears. ;)

Evangelion, you obviously have a gripe about Creative

I'm mostly indifferent about Creative, what I have a gripe with, is people who claim that they make "hi-end" stuff. I have heard Creatives products being called by many names, but "hi-end" is not one of them.

is this what you are talking about with Aureal???

Yep. Aureal was years ahead of Creative, but Creative was bigger. So they killed their competitor by burying them with legal-bills for bogus lawsuits.

I'm curious, what pocket video camera do you own?

I don't own any.

I own the Vado HD, and it, by far beats any pocket video camera out-to-date!!!

OMG, that is SO awesome!!!!1111!

Now do tell me: what are the "great speakers" that Creative supposedly makes?

I have the Vado HD and i'm impressed!

How much trouble is it to get footage into iMovie? I had heard there was transcoding required so I ended up getting a Sony Webbie HD instead. It is natively supported in iMovie so I don't have to jump through any hoops.

Since the Zii doesn't seem to support OSX I have no need to look at it either, since I am even less interested in jumping through hoops in syncing a media player.

It looks remarkably similar to the Touch, except they've redesigned the main button at the bottom. Still, an impressive set of features. The new Touch released this year has a tough act to follow...

Bah Humbug..
Case No.: G000000033

Problem Description: What is the minimum order quantity for a bulk order zero gb Zii EGG and can a 3G modem be added ?

Comment/Suggested Solution: With regards to your inquiry, the 0GB Zii EGG is for developers who intend to productize the Zii EGG in mass quantity for commercial use. If you have not purchase our Zii EGG SDK, please visit http://www.zii.com/Developer/BuySDK.aspx to place your order. Thank you for your suggestion and we are constantly adding new features to Zii products and appreciate your concern. Please continue to watch for future announcements on Zii.com.

Could have at least told me if in fact 3g can be added. :sighs:

edit:
What I don't get is how a company can make this their product. Sure they can change a few things but "Creative Zii Egg" is still going to be slapped on it.

At the right price and with android this would be infinitely better than the ipod touch.(well maybe not infinitely). However it seems likely that most will still by the iPod touch as it is a name people now unlike the foreign and decidedly unattractive sounding "zii egg".

It won't be too hard for another company to rebrand the Zii for their own use. For example, Ramos makes a range of players in China. Lattefone, which looks like a U.S. company, has gotten them to re-label a fw of their player and change the specs a little to sell them as the Latte Cafe, iVu, Espresso, and so on. The Ramos is available with 8gb memory. The Latte Cafe is the same device except with 32gb memory, new labels, and a new box. I think Creative (Singapore) was inspired by this business model.

What's bogus is to claim that Creative makes "hi-end" stuff. They don't. Hell, even their claim to fame, soundcards, are average at best! Their speakers are nothing to write home about, and I can't understand why you would value them so highly. their business-ethics are appalling (like I said, go read about Aureal Semiconductor) and they just can't write any software. Their mp3-players are just generic "me too!"-garbage.

I honestly can't think of any reason why anyone would consider Creative to be a manufacturer of "hi-end" products... They are the epitome of average-at-best consumer garbage.

Let me guess: you also think that Bose makes "audiophile"-hardware?

Reading you comments makes it seem like that you are at most 15-years old. Am I right? If I am, then you would be excused for having somewhat limited exposure to different products and companies and therefore thinking that Creative is a "hi-end" company.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I've been unimpressed with their players of late until this recent one. I can't speak for Creative's sound cards and speakers, but I own a 60GB Zen Vision: M, and there's nothing "crappy" about it. The only thing I didn't like was its thickness (its software doesn't count to me since I got around it). Otherwise, it was better than the video iPod it competed with.

I love my iPod Touch, but if I didn't own one, I'd probaby get the Egg. Stupid-ass name though

Has anyone ordered one? Just curious if they are shipping the $399 Zii Egg +SDK yet. Given that most of the other players with WiFi hover around $399 for 32gb version, it's not an outrageous price to pay for the 32gb Zii.

very curious as well...I have no idea on any release date(s).

...if you do purchase the Zii Egg (SDK kit), I'll be lookin' for a review coming from you ;) ...hopefully :p

This is like the Mac vs PS debate. One's touting hardware. One's touting App Store + quality. I take the App Store any day. I can miss out on the OLED screens, shoddy touchscreen (if it's glass, then that's pretty good), probably shoddy cameras, and other shoddy bits and pieces to fit it under the selling price.

If I get one I'll write a review. No doubt about that. I've decided that with players I'm going to use them for at least a week, and even read any user manual that comes with them before I begin a review. Many of the devices I've already reviewed have gotten better with new firmware since I reviewed them. Creative promised frequent updates to the Egg, so it's won't hurt to wait awhile for them to get the thing polished up.
