Sometimes credit cards provide extra protection:
Buyer dispute protection
Sometimes they provide warranty/insurance for several years negating the need for Applecare.
It all depends on the card and the issuing company.

Use credit wisely...only spend the amount that you can cover each month.
If you do this, then by the time you graduate from college and get your first "real" job, you will be able to buy/lease a nice car and rent a nice appartment or house.

IF you are responsible that's one thing but the majority of people I know and have seen are not. Its just a fact. I was at a Best Buy the other night returning something and there were 3 - THREE couples in the credit line trying to get a BB credit card. ALL OF THEM DENIED. The first couple were openly saying, "Well its because we never paid on that other Visa you *******" yikes. The other guy just shook his head and said, "Figures". And the other couple just looked upset and walked away - looked like they wanted to buy a MiniDV and they had a baby as well.

A few people I know at the office are drowning in debt and like I said before my friend got into some serious trouble with 4 Visa cards. Yes he was stupid and maxed all of them out and you do not want to know how much he owed. He was fortunate (I guess) he inherited a large large sum of cash. He was able to pay everything off and apply for a mortgage for his first home a year later. He is lucky. As I know a girl who is in the same trouble with buying everything she saw.

So i guess you just have to have self-control and understand the rules of credit. But most people when they want something they will charge it to get it.

I brought a bank check to buy my iMac and cash (exact) to buy my iBook. I remember the day the cashier looked at me and said, "You are kidding right?" Its like he'd never seen cash before! :D

but yeah just be responsible and stay in that habit. I personally messed up myself but have gotten myself out of it. Just be aware and think things over when it comes to charging...

In Canada, we dont have credit debit cards. However we do have have credit cards :p . Anyways, I treat my Bank of Montreal Mastercard like a debit card. I never owe them money, I always have cash on it. Right now I have about $600 of credit, yes credit to me on my credit card. If I buy something, I never go over 0 dollars. In fact BEFORE I buy my 12" I'Book I'll transfer money from my checking account to my credit card so I'll have like $1500 of credit or something. That way I'm never in credit card debt, not even for a minute. So if you are asking then why do I even have a credit card as a may as well just use my bank account? Simple, for purcase protection, extended warranty (so no wasting money at Best Buy or Apple Care) and Air Miles.

So basiclly I'm only 19 but unlike other 19 year olds (and most other humans), I go beyond responsible credit card use. Just to show that not all late-teenagers are irresponsible :) .
