The game just came out yesterday. I watched a little of someone playing on Twitch. The map is supposed to be huge. Anyone playing it yet? I love open world games but also love simplicity. Red Dead 2 is my favorite game of all time, could not get into Skyrim at all. Found the magic parts of it and leveling up just not enjoyable for me. Anyone playing Crimson Desert yet that can comment on the leveling up and overall enjoyment of the game? Only read a little and it is getting some high praise.

The map is huge. I can't tell if your character levels or just the gear you upgrade. It doesn't hold your hand (much anyways).

I read this is an action RPG lacking the depth of writing you might expect. My son offered to buy this for me at $70 (birthday gift) and I told him to hold off. I’ve only spent this much on a game once before, and was disappointed so as a rule, I’d wait anyway. I had read, this company had originally made Black Desert, an MMORPG, and this is derivative of that, and that elements from the MMO remain, which may seem out of place, and you won’t get the same level of writing, you might expect from a Skyrim kind of game. It maybe decent, but my impression is that $70 is too much.

If you want a good story, stay away. If you want to faf around in a world and discover stuff off the beaten path, this is probably the game for you.

Glad I did not pull the trigger right away. Hearing mixed reviews for the story and game itself. I will definitely pick it up when it comes on sale for 50% of less but in no hurry. Some of the earlier reviews had a lot of hype and compared to Red Dead 2 which is my comparison for any open world game, so far none have stood up to that that level of detail.

Unless I'm totally sure I will like a game, I can wait a year or more until the game hits the bargain bin on Steam 🙂.

Same here, and it has the added benefit of letting someone else deal with all the bugs that tend to plague the initial release of AAA titles.

Yep, ditto. I'll wait for the bugs to be ironed out and the quality of life experiences to be added. This does look fantastic though. And Steam appears to have cross-buy for it.

@Homy how quickly is the MAS version of this game getting updated (compared to the Steam version)?

Patch 1.01.00 on MAS was 4 days behind Steam. Since then three new patches been released on Steam but not on MAS.

Looks good, but many including the devs have said the narrative took second place. Right now, good enough playing Total Chaos & Tainted Grai: The Fall of Avalon.

I did not even know this came out for Mac. Not that I would buy it for Mac but I had a look at it in the App Store and need a base M2 Pro to run the game. This is my issue with Macs for gaming, you get the arbitrary no longer supported based on Apple and how they handle hardware and software. I have an M1 Max with 36 gigs of RAM which cannot support this game at minimum, but on PC you can settle for a lot lot less in computer power to play the game. If I am serious about gaming then I am going to a platform that lets me play the most games and gives me the most options. Mac is far too walled off and while that is a good thing for so many things in this case it is too limiting.

It appears the MAS version hasn't been updated yet. I wonder why there is such a disconnect.
May not be the priority for the developer, maybe there's different hoops to jump through, that is Apple is slowing it down. Not sure in all honesty.
