Crucial C300 256 gb SSD for $400, should I keep it?

I just got the C300 yesterday and installed it in my '11 Macbook Pro 15". I had no problems whatsoever, including enabling trim. In the end, ran XBench, and I am very satisfied with the results. Was able to pick up the 256gb drive on Amazon for $370. Yes, I know that the new Vertex 3 and Intel 510's are still better performing SSDs, but you can't beat the price/performance ratio of this thing.

$400! wow thats an amazing price.. i would stick with it and upgrade to a v3 once prices have settled down

i plan on replacing my stock 7200rpm hdd with a sata2 240gb ssd and then put a v3 as my main boot drive

Forget XBench for SSD test, use the free AJA system test, that will give you some real results for your SSD.

I've got a C300 in my '10 MBP i7, and will be getting the Vertex 3 the day it comes out.

How much can you trust AJA? See my post here https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=12362925 for AJA and Xbench comparison of C300 and Corsair F115.
Aja shows half the write speed of corsair, yet xbench shows Crucial to be ahead....

$370? I'm jealous! :( Only a month later! Boo!

Love this thing though! My MBP is now PERFECT!

Yup...prices on last gen SSDs are dropping and they are looking really good. This afternoon I saw that Microcenter is selling the 240gb Vertex 2 for $339 WITH a $30 rebate! I couldn't pass this up and picked this up tonight as the 2nd SSD for my machine. Seeing as the CD drive only does 3gbps, the Vertex 2 is more then adequate. Also, if anyone is interested in this deal, it looks like they are clearing them out so it is only available for local store purchases and not online.

Yeah, that price is winning. And honestly, the real world difference in SATA2 v. 3 SSDs is likely less than people make just because other technology is not designed to operate nearly as quickly. Load times of my 13 w/ a OWC S2 drive versus the newer Airs w/ a OEM S2 drive versus the 2011 MBP's w/ a factory drive are all really close. It is not worth an extra $200 to get MS Word to load an extra .35 seconds quicker...you will not be able to stop for a coffee and a doughnut with that amount of time savings.

I think at the point of looking into SATA3 speeds, .3ghz faster processors and X.XX% benchmarks it's less about real world usage of the computer but just how "fine tuned" you're computer is. I think at this point for me, upgrading lap tops are like the geek version of upgrading/fine tuning cars.

Yes it's AWESOME to show off and to once in a while to do something (gaming, editing, 3D rendering) but predominantly, at least in my case... I just fire up the thing... surf the web, read a few emails and maybe watch some online videos. Nothing I really NEED an SSD, Quad-core processor or the latest Nvidia/Radeon/crappy discrete gpu for.

I recently got my sister's 2006 2.16ghz C2D Macbook from my sister to work on. Been just doing some minor surfing on it the last few days... I put in a Momentus XT on it. Despite the really crappy display it's barely noticeable that it's an "inferior" macbook compared to my 2008 15 inch MBP... in fact it seems to turn on faster than my SSD rocking MBP.
