I've done that but my computer won't boot from the CD. Could you guys give details instructions on how to burn the cd from Disk Utility?

Download firmware from the crucial site.

Open up disk utility and drag file to the left. Highlight file and choose option on top to burn to cd.

Put in disk drive on mac and hold down option key after beep and it should load up firmare.

good luck

Has anyone noticed their MBP running hotter with SSD vs HD?

Mine seems noticeably hotter.

Yup. Still on SL but i wouldn't put much stock into the results. they fluctuate more often than not.

There were some problems with the SSD, requiring Mac users to downgrade to 1.6 EFI. Are the problems gone with this firmware (nothing about it in the changelog)? Thanks!

Holy ****! Write speeds are up to 263MB/sec and read speeds are now 510MB/sec!

Cold boot time is now 18 seconds from power on to usable desktop.

On my 2011 MBP I have the factory SSD 512. However on my 2011 iMac (i7) I have the M4. Just upgraded to 0009. Downloaded the ISO from crucial, burned a CD with DiskUtility and rebooted (holding ALT and choosing the CD).

Upgrade was smooth, quick with no issues. However using the AJA System test on the M4 with 0009 I do not get over 500MB (closer to 480).

Just upgraded my new 2011 MBP and ran the following test - Are these

Thanks! Unfortunately, it didn't take long for me to get my first 20/30 second beach ball lockup. However, the improvements in speed brought on by this firmware update make oh-so-difficult to go to SATA II. SATA III has all this latent potential. In the DiskSpeedTest, I'm now getting 500+ mb/s read times.

Great support from crucial.
But does it definitely fix the issues '11 MBP were having?

I have no complains with my '10, but of course it's only running @ 3 Gb speeds.

Now if I only could boot that image with my optibayed MBP... :p

Well, for most, the Firmware 0002 update fixed the beach ball issues for most. For some reason, they remain pesky for me. I can't really fathom the problem. I'm on my second drive and this one came with Firmware 0002 per-installed. Overall, the drive performance is snappy and good, but those beach ball pauses are certainly annoying when they pop up for seemingly no apparent reason.

My mind is narrowing this down to being an OS X problem or a MBP firmware problem. Like all of the SSD manufacturers I've talked to so far, it's not the SSD, it's Apple.

I would tend to agree with you. The golden question is whether things will get better for my machine, or Apple will only address the problem with future machines or not at all. Right now, Numbers in the iWork '09 suite is completely unusable. Normal text within some of the cells is being converted into crazy characters, see attachment. I've closed without saving and reopened the app and it still fraught with those crazy characters. What the hell? Moreover, whenever I scroll up the document it stutters and beach balls, as if this spreadsheet is so large. I'm afraid my Crucial M4 days may be coming to a close. Pretty aggravating since I was so content with the performance improvements brought on by Firmware 0009. I just don't think I'll be able to get Apple to own up to the SATA III issue plaguing my machine.

Applegoat, have you tried a full erase/reinstall of Lion with the new firmware update?

I am running Snow Leopard. I had done that when I installed Firmware 0002 on my drive, at the behest of a Crucial cs rep. I suppose the performance improved mildly, but I still had beach ball hangups. I am installing a few updates now. This problem is completely iWork related. An update or reinstall of the program should fix the problem.

I figured it would be iWork related. I'm still getting hangups as well with my SSD, even though I got mine swapped out for a brand new one. I am more than certain Apple needs to release some updates and get on the ball here.

When did you buy your MBP? I installed the system updates (mainly for Safari and iWork). No dice. iWork still is corrupted for whatever reason. While all the other programs on my computer (that I've used) are performing well. When I get home, I will reinstall iWork '09. I don't really feel like doing another fresh install, since I've done too many to count in the past two weeks. I don't understand why I must go down that route with every new firmware release, while others don't.

Got mine April of this year, the baseline 15" MBP.

Yeah, try reinstalling iWork... don't know what else it could be. And I'm with you, I hate having to reinstall everything. It's just wearing down the SSD.

You shouldn't have to reinstall OS X every new firmware release unless the manufacturer states to do so. Backups, however, are always recommended even if they don't say so.

I did a fresh install last night -- hopefully the last one I have to do on this drive -- except of course, when I eventually upgrade to Lion -- ugh. Since I got my MBP in early March, it came with SL v. 10.6.6 -- so every time I do a fresh install I must download the 1.3 GB update to 10.6.8. Well, Irene screwed up the internet in my apartment last night, and I was forced to make local installs before the routine System Update. Adobe CS (particularly inDesign) could not open without beach balling (like two lengthy bouts) every SINGLE time! I let the computer idle over night and the problem was the same in the morning. At work, I downloaded the updates and now inDesign works flawlessly. This is a huge breakthrough for me. This pretty much indicates that my drive's problems are software related, which is what I suspected.

Debating whether to keep or return ssd?

For my needs, internet and email mostly not sure if its $160 well spent and just keep my 320gb mbp hard drive?

I don't use many apps so other than fast boot and shutdown not sure what to do?

I'm debating that too, but I would return the M4 for another SSD. It seems like I've tried everything, I just can't seem to shake these annoying, sporadic beach balls.

Man, trust me, I've tried everything too. I've swapped mine out for a brand new one, took my MBP to a Genius, talked to the Manufacturer, talked to Apple Advisors, did diagnostics, reinstalled multiple times...

All to reach the same conclusion I came to after experiencing the first beach ball.

I'm really hoping 10.7.2 fixes it.
