Wearing kilts that close to the ice (with nothing underneath, of course) is surely a receipe for disaster. Luckily our brave British/Scottish* girls are more sensibly dressed.

* Delete as applicable, depending on result.

Certainly more sensibly than the Norwegians. They've been wearing this:

Curling? Seriously?

You'll all enjoy your golden years playing shuffleboard which is basically curling without the ice.

I never understood curling, but it looks like it would be fun to try. I don't get why they always brush the path in front of the curling thing... Fun to watch.

Hey, we gave you Alanis Morrisette.....and the jokes that go with her.

And Brian Adams. Don't forget Summer of '69.

Curling is weird.

I had heard about curling but had no idea how it was played. Then I saw it on the Simpsons and I thought it was a joke. :p Then I found out it wasn't.

Shuffleboard isn't a team sport. There is much more to curling than just throwing the stones down the ice. Curling is almost a combination of shuffleboard, darts, and bowling (because of the spin), with a lot of strategy and teamwork thrown in.

They brush the path to melt the ice, which causes the stone to glide faster. If some spin (curl) was put on the stone, the brushing helps to increase the spin, which curves the path of the stone.

I think it's to try and help keep them warm.

well, standing on that ice like that...

Thank you :) I looked it up on Wikipedia, but it was very long winded. Your reply was direct and excellent.

Americans make fun and laugh at this so called sport. The ones who don't never heard of it.

Speak for yourself there friend. I happen to think it's quite cool. (no pun intended) I always thought it looked like a combination of bowling and chess on ice. There seems to be so much strategy involved in the matches depending on a variety of factors. My wife wants to find a place that has it in our area and take a group of friends.

say what you want about it, but it is the most televised sport of the olympics in the U.S. CNBC basically had hours and hours of straight coverage this weekend...every other sport would be snippets here and there.

Part of the reason for the great amount of coverage is how the sport is played at the Olympics. Unlike most of the other event based sports that can be completed in one day over the course of several hours, curling is played in a round robin tournamet format. There's a lot of teams and that means lots of playing time which in turn means lots of coverage.
