Ah, ok. So we are thinking similar time frame, but you are closer to retirement than I am, ;)

Personally, I'm looking forward to ditching my phone. For instance, if I'm going out to lunch during work, I don't like having to put my phone into my pocket so I can be reached if someone needs me.
Your rationale is exactly why I knew the watch would succeed. The ones that couldn't envision any usefulness for it were just being dim. Not having to drag your phone out of a pocket, especially in winter when I and many others are wearing heavy parkas is a no brainier.

It's too early to talk about such devices replacing phones but I have a friend who now uses her iPhone 6+ almost exclusively forgoing her iPad which she has given away and her laptop that's in a closet.

It wasn't that long ago that very few people had smart phones, now almost everyone does. The watch is just the next progression.

I've seen reports that Apple is working with the military for watch applications. I can see devices being developed and used by them in ways that would gradually make it into the general marketplace. Again, I read a lot of scifi where such wrist and forearm devices are heavily used for communication purposes. Many movies and tv shows utilize such props as well. It's easy to see it coming. It may be a device by Google, Apple or some other company but we'll have them. Even me if I stay above ground long enough!!
