I probably skip next iPhone

Already owning 1.1.2 OTB without Turbo SIM meaning totally useless equipment worth $400. I am sure iPhone will have tie-ups with AT&T or other providers when they release their V2 phone during 2008.

Too much of hacking, unlocking, activating, ibricking ...out of warranty etc...Does it really worth taking all these risks?

Unless you are an ATT subscriber in US or O2 Subscriber in UK, it may not worth the salt. Apple may be happy to sell their stuffs to everyone but I will wait for their equipment free of unlocking bull*****s.

iphone nano?

ok, so with all this stuff about the iphone nano/shuffle, whatever. couldnt they just make a screenless device with 3-5 buttons on it, and you add contacts from itunes, can speak input and thats about it. literally, just a connection to your contacts, and ipod and up and down. i can imagine it being easy? "iphone;call 213 444-0142"or "iphone; call jane Doe"
possible?
it could even have bluetooth and just connect wirelessly. it would have ridiculous battery too i bet.

Hey, not that I want to hijack this thread, but I think my question fits in here...
I haven't followed the iPhone hype and rumors. However, my roommate just got one and I'm somewhat hooked.

So, what's the current "school of thought" regarding the next upgrade, i.e., when and what? Storage up to 16GB in January?

Many thanks!

iphone 2 will be software

I think the iPhone is constantly misunderstood. For example, there is so much that can be done with web apps over the browser but everyone clamors for native apps. Apple is trying to take it to the next level here but I don't think everyone is ready.

The same goes for this thread. I seem to always hear about complaints about this or that. Waiting for some feature before buying, etc. But, apple is genius at drawing a straight line through the scatterplot of possibilities to make it more accessible for more people. Sure, you could attach wheels to it and have it follow you around, but there's only 2 people in the world who really care about that - most are content to just keep it (smaller now with no wheels) in their pocket.

Just buy it - you will love it :). This is simply the best experience for a phone out there, and I don't think that's going to change very soon. There's always going to be something new coming at Apple - the seasoned fanboys know this :). At least with iPhone and an interface that's pure software, you're going to be good for much longer than any other phone. We iPhone 1 users will not *have* to upgrade the hardware to take advantage of all the fancy new features of the next os updates.

My iPhone is fantastic, worth the $600 i paid, some say yes, some say no. Money can't buy happiness, but it sure can buy nice things. I love my iPhone and continue to love it more and more as i hear about new application development and see them in the works, some are just fun, but others are quite useful and would be useful to all iPhone users rather than those daring enough to endeavor to the 'unlocking' side of things.

If you are saying the 'new' iPhone only consists of the 16GB Hard Drive and 3G capabilities upgrade, then I wouldn't be in a rush to upgrade, the 8GB HDD is more than enough room for me as I use a nano for running with and a 5G 30GIG for those times i feel like i want/need my whole library of songs (not very often i'll tell you that much).

Anyway when the development kids are around in February the iPhone will get a boosted level of useful necessities in our lives!

As for GPS, thats what the nice big touch screen NavMan is for!
