This. This has got to be the worst release in terms of bugs since 10.0. And this with a non-feature release...

Oh please.... Dramatize much? Much worse bugs existed in previous OSes. By far the worst was SL in its .0 form, now considered to be the best of all the OSXs.

Guess people have very short term memories.

Closing tabs on Safari

When I close a tab on Safari (by clicking the X) the tabs stay the size they were, and then once I move my mouse, they expand to take up the space. This is not how it should behave, it should automatically expand when the tab is closed.

That's exactly how it should behave. With it this way, you can quickly close tabs without having to move your cursor to chase the ever moving x button. That's actually a new feature.

Hmm... really? That actually makes sense. Do you have any other info about it?

It's driving me insane. Every time it goes to sleep, when I wake her up, I get ghost graphics instead of my desktop and apps. Should I just restart? I've been logging off then on again. Which seems to work but does take up time which is why I don't log off most of the time.

Safari tabs issue

When i open a tab with middle button, safari freezing 1sec but its happen only first tab, after i open 10 tabs more its working normal.

And i notice that, its only happen full screen when i use safari on main desktop tab its also working normal.

What I can't get my head around, is this. There is an inconsistency in Safari where under the View menu, Bookmarks are called 'Favorites', whereas under the Bookmarks menu, as the name implies, they are called Bookmarks. Not sure if this is new, but why is "Show/Hide Favorites Bar" not "Show/Hide Bookmarks Bar?"

Apple has been all about consistency and they obsess over tiny details. How could they have missed this? Consistency and OCD runs (supposedly) through the veins of Apple. Am I missing something?

In Safari, sometimes when I click a link or enter an address, Safari stops loading in between before even showing the new page, does nothing. To test it, I even waited for like 5 minutes. Nothing happening, progress bar stuck When I immediately click Stop + Refresh, it renders immediately. Every Single Time. Happens 1 out of 10 times approximately.

It's not my broadband (150 / 15), I *never* have this problem in Chrome or Firefox (worked a full day with both, respectively). Also, does happen regardless of on battery or AC.

Maps app only shows yellow squares in standard view. iPhoto and Aperture only show Satellite view. Squares in other views.

Any solution?

Very simple: Your favourite bookmarks are the ones in your favourite bar. It is a subset of your bookmarks. Always has been.

Several problems for me.

  1. Mouse icon randomly turning to a beachball for a split second for no apparent reason
  2. Keyboard backlight stays on even when in a well lit room (13" late-2013 rMBP, is this intentional?)
  3. Very slugging window animations (any way to disable?)

Anyone else experiencing these?

Can't delete printers

I have 2 printers listed in the Printers and Fax Sytem Preference pane,
same Canon printer, name is slightly different. One is probably left over from the ML 10.8.5 install, the other from an updated Canon installer, installed after the update to Mavericks.
In the Pref pane, I can highlight either printer, and the +/- box is available but clicking on the - box does nothing.
Not a big issue, the printer is working ;), but it may be a bug.

System errors :/

Not sure if this is a bug with Mavericks exactly, but my Macbook Pro can no longer recognise USB drives.

Everytime I plug in one (after I upgraded to Mavericks), 2 error messages show up saying

1) The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/IOStorageFamily.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

2) The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

Anyone know how I can fix this? :(

Wow.... I knew Mavericks was buggy, didn't realised the latest GM build was this buggy...

Upgraded to the production release today from GM1 and have already had 3 Kernel Panics today...

NEED 10.9.1 ASAP.

And no one believed me .... LOL

Welcome to Bug-Ridden Hell :)

I might as well switch to windows... I think it crashes less.

The only real bug I have at this time is that when I swipe in the launchpad between screens of apps, it doesn't snap to the next/previous page. It will hang between pages if you don't scroll enough. I remember previous versions using launchpad snapping to the next page if you swipped just a little bit.

I also get the raninbow wheel and delay a lot more now. Not a major issue but kind of surprised.

I have the exact same problem. Really annoying.

I've been reading this forum and from what I can tell I shouldn't update to Mavericks yet correct? Was thinking about updating today.

Updated 4 machines this week and no issues at all. Two MacBook airs that are running fantastically, and even two hackintosh machines, all stable and rock solid. You have to realize that for every person here saying the sky is falling for one reason or another, there are probably 100+ people chugging happily along.

Correct. Wait. If you've seen what's new and there's nothing you can't live without, wait. It still has a lot of bugs. Give it a few weeks and I'm sure there will be fixes. Beta testing can only find so much and it seems they didn't really test it widely enough. I'm having graphic problems and my install was a nightmare. All my permissions got messed up. I finally got it working but the graphics problem is driving me nuts. I wish I'd waited and will not be updating my iMac until the issues have been fixed.

A few applications have had issues; some have been patched and some remain buggy (and OS X Server 3, I'm lookin' at you!).

As a desktop OS, Mavericks is magnificent, and it significantly improves battery life and responsiveness. No problems here with four machines updated. But don't update your Mac servers quite yet, as servers running Mavericks require updating to Server 3, which in its .0 version breaks VPN functionality.

Got an issue with Time Machine now.

Let's say that between backups, the only change I've made is:

1) Adding 2 albums to iTunes
2) Editing a few documents

On Mountain Lion the incremental Time Machine backup would be around ~2 GB, which is the modified/new files plus a few other things, like extra Safari history, modification of a few system files.

On Mavericks, every incremental backup is around ~100 GB which is crazy considering I only have ~200 GB of data on the hard drive. It keeps thinking that I've modified ~100 GB of data in a short time, even if the previous backup was just a few hours before.
