Current major bugs in Mavericks?

My current bugs with Mavericks:

  • When viewing a movie in Quicktime on my second display, Quicktime is only made active when using Cmd+Tab. The whole Space is unresponsive.
  • Leaving the computer on while performing a task eventually results in the computer going to sleep.
  • When performing the swipe for mission control, I need to lose physical contact with the trackpad to be able to perform the opposite gesture.
  • When using the green + to maximize the screen to display fit the content, it often increases the size way too much. I don't want to go back to the Windows way of wasting space.

Especially the Quicktime-fullscreen space unresponsiveness on secondary monitor is annoying.

I noticed major issues with swiping back and forth between pages in Safari and Chrome. Not sure what's up with that but it's extremely annoying...

  1. With multi-monitors the window positions are not remembered, they are off screen and small
  2. Magic mouse movement on Chrome jumpy... I THINK its my middle finger resting on the edge of the mouse, VERY slight movements causing the page to jitter... but it never used to! I have to achingly lift my finger up off the mouse
  3. App Store Updates seems to have an issue, getting no Downloading statuses. Click Update All just greys that button out, then click single Update on an app greys it out and nothing seems to download and update
  4. Having issues with 1Password and Last Pass in Chrome
  5. Main 1Password app not installing updates

Think those are the only issues I have experienced after upgrading, they are all quite annoying, especially point 1.

Wow.... I knew Mavericks was buggy, didn't realised the latest GM build was this buggy...

Upgraded to the production release today from GM1 and have already had 3 Kernel Panics today...

NEED 10.9.1 ASAP.

----------

And no one believed me .... LOL

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1652811/

Welcome to Bug-Ridden Hell :)

I might as well switch to windows... I think it crashes less.

Do a clean install. Got it on 3 Macs now no crashes at all. GM1 was clunky for me, even upgrading over it with the final release and it was still slow/buggy.

Bit the bullet and wiped the Macs out, reinstalled fresh and they are all flying now.

----------

Maps app only shows yellow squares in standard view. iPhoto and Aperture only show Satellite view. Squares in other views.

Any solution?

Create a new user and login with it then test the maps. I had this issue and there was something in my user profile that was breaking Maps.

I moved all of my stuff to a new profile and deleted the old one and everything was fine.

I have since done fresh installs across all of my Macs due to some issues in going from the pre release to final. I also wanted to experiment with netinstalls etc

No active downloads with Safari but a bar is shown in the Download stack.
This was there also in the first GM, reported, not fixed.

Haven't read all the posts but I've had some Finder problems.

1) some times it won't show folder content until I quit the Finder and restart it, or you restart the computer.

2) Also in the Finder at times I can't change file names, I've checked permissions and repaired permissions.

3) At times loosing connection with LAN drives, but Internet and email still working, so not a hardware issue. Only fix it to restart the computer.

4) Also on networks at times I'll get multi copies of the drives on my desktop with -1 after the drive name.

Hope 10.9.1 fixes these issues!

Can't delete printers

I just noticed that I can't delete printers in the System Preference pane.
Have 1 printer left over from the ML system, I installed Mav over that system, and 1 printer from an install while running Mavericks.
Can't delete either in the Sharing window either.
The +/- boxes are shown and clickable, but nothing happens when clicking on the - button.
Printers work as expected, so it's not a real problem, probably a .0 release issue. :eek::apple::eek:

Totally unrelated issue, Finder bug?
Sometimes on external disks, both USB 2 and Firewire 800, I have seen "dev" and "home" folders. Booting from that disk, those folders are no longer visible. :confused:

Another permissions bug?
Some textedit files - .txt and .rtf - pop up an "Don't have permissions required to save" error message. These files always have Custom privileges for Everybody, which cannot be deleted, and also Read only privileges for Everybody as 2 separate entries. When that happens, the only way out is to do a Command A and copy everything in the file to a new Textedit file.
These files are/were a few of many left over from my ML install.
Textedit crashes if you try to do anything with those files except copy and save to a new file with a different name, the Quit without saving. :eek:

I've had a couple issues on my rMBP 2012 which are really frustrating.

- System refuses to wake from screen, I just get frozen cursor which eventually turns into a frozen beach ball.

- Upon (every) restart the system menu items (i.e Wifi, Time Machine, Time and even Spotlight) refuse to load. If I relaunch Finder or try to restart the menu bar through terminal, no luck. The only way I have found to get it to work is to Log in and out. If I restart they just disappear again. Really frustrating because there is no clock or wifi status and no way to use spotlight.

Password required immediately

I have my laptop set to require password one hour after sleep or screensaver, but since installing Mavericks it requires it immediately. Anyone else with this problem?:confused:

Beware of incompatibilities with Detox My Mac

After upgrading to Mac OSX 10.9 , better known as Maverick, I discovered Detox My Mac application stopped working. It was working on Mountain Lion OSX 10.8, the day before.!!!

I reinstalled a NEWLY purchased version of DetoxMyMac and it still doesn't work.

Detox My Mac Website states that if's latest version works on 10.9 ; NOT!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They (Detoxmymac) resolved by updating their software to run properly on Maverick OSX 10.9
the "bug" that you are seeing isn't with 10.9 ... Surprise it's with Detox the app hasn't been updated correctly .. Report the issue back to app dev team not to apple .... /rant
No issues on mavericks as of yet .. :eek: 2011 mini - no "clean" installs .. Lion -ML< (no clean install either ) - now - Mavericks ..
1) Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter auto-assigns itself an IP and does not use the IP provided by the DHCP server. I am currently investigating what is going on using dhcpdump. My old machine with Linux and windows does not have this problem.
2) AppStore won't allow me to download Mavericks (I want to store it in a flash drive).
3) I can't download any applications from AppStore. They will give me random messages. e.g.: "unknown error", or it will ask for my password and it will behave like I typed it wrong.
4) Can not install Windows8.1 with bootcamp. Windows installation fails saying that it couldn't modify the boot record. I found a workaround online I will try it now.
5) So, in other words, nothing works. So many problems, so many problems.
The moment I make sure that the problem with the Ethernet is a software related issue and not hardware-related, I wipe the drive clean and install Debian. I don't find a reason for MacOSX to exist anyway.
i have had the following
iMac (Home)
  1. Folders open with no icons in them. I have to reboot the mac in order for items to be displayed
  2. Un mounting USB / External HDD's - Icons stay on the desktop resulting in Finder Crash
  3. Quick time outputs bad audio quality (crackles)
  4. Safari Crashes when swiping between webpages
  5. Time machine symbol near clock does not rotate
  6. Keyboard stops responding after hard power down ( this might be a fault with the keyboard i suspect )
Mac Mini (Work) - Much like iMac at home
  1. Time machine symbol near clock does not rotate
  2. Folders open with no icons in them
  3. iTunes when playing audio, you hear a hiss noise during the song
  4. Quick time outputs bad quality. Have tested with headphones, external speakers, internal speaker
UPDATE
I have discovered the cause of the crackling / hissing when playing media in quicktime / iTunes. I am using a product called "BOOM" which enhances the quality of the sound in OSX. Soon as i closed this. crackling stopped
hi,
i have had mavericks clean-installed on my mid 2011 mba. here are some anomalies observed:
1. installation - progress stuck at 'about one seconds remaining' for about 10 minutes before proceeding as normal. i have seen people reporting that this lasted from 3 to 30 minutes in some cases. apple should put their 'reality distortion field' to better use somewhere else ...
2. itunes - itunes scrubber bar is not providing feedback on action taken such as playback, downloading apps, etc. only see the apple logo. this happens to me after i've updated to 11.1.2. no problem with the version that comes with mavericks.
3. wifi - wifi failed to reconnect after waking from sleep. the wifi icon on the top right of menu bar will show it's trying to reconnect but ended up greyed out. requires manual reconnect from said icon.
4. battery life - shorter battery life after maverick installation with 'service battery' indicator. though to be fair my mba is 2+ year old now. but this was not a issue with my prior mountain lion installation and battery life discrepancies (between ml and maverick) is pretty abrupt.
finger cross 10.9.1 will fix most (if not all) of the issues i'm having.
Go to System Prefs... Security and Privacy... General. There's a pop up menu to select the duration in between prompts
Oh please.... Dramatize much? Much worse bugs existed in previous OSes. By far the worst was SL in its .0 form, now considered to be the best of all the OSXs.
Guess people have very short term memories.
SL is pretty rock-solid... that's what I'm upgrading from. My recording app is pushing me to go 64bit all the way now. Mavericks seems pretty close to SL in terms of smoothness/snappiness. A few bugs, but so far tolerable.
I think what he's saying is that SL 10.6.0, was very buggy. It has of course become a very stable OS with 10.6.8. Hopefully the same will happen with Mavericks.
Yes, I was agreeing with him. You always have to assume that every new major OSX release will be buggy in the beginning. I'm surprised 10.9 is as stable as it is
Are you referring to pro tools 11? I haven't installed mavs on my desktop yet, I haven't seen very many reports on how well a lot of daws are running on mavericks yet. Most of my audio software seems to run fine on my macbook pro, but then again I don't use it for serious work very often.
After waking from sleep or screen saver it doesn't ask for your password to gain access. Even with 'Require Password Immediately after sleep or screen saver begins' is ticked.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Just in case you never get a reply, yes.. I have seen this. It happens when you change or update the screensaver (from what I can tell). After viewing Screensaver, make sure you go back to Security and 'see' (you don't have to reclick anything) that the setting for password immediately is there. After that, It'll be fine again until you change screensaver again.
I'm wondering about the 'seeing' thing though. Try the above and then try just looking at screensaver again and seeing if it drops the settings.
I'm fine now after this workaround.
Yeah I'm preparing to make the switch to PT11 sometime in the near future. I at least wanted to download the trial and see how it is. I read on Avid's site about compatibility issues with Media Composer and Sibelius and some other things, but I didn't see anything too major. Hopefully I can upgrade PT & my plugins for under $1000.
I just came here to post that ever since upgrading my early 15" rMBP takes a long time (from 20-60 seconds) to connect to wifi signal or sometimes not at all and I have to manually select it from the list.
I don't feel its my wifi router because 3 iPhones, iPad and 2 Xbox's connect without any issue and quickly.
Before the update it was fairly quick (within few seconds).
I just upgraded to "Mavericks" and have 3 major issues with it:
First and foremost I lost my IMac admin. ID and password.
After trying everything I could, I still can't recover them, including using UNIX, as recommended on these sites:
http://www.macworld.com/article/1167855/installing_mountain_lion_what_you_need_to_know.html
No matter how hard I try, it just doesn't work.
I thought I had when I used "resetpassword", but when I used it again it said: "Please use install disk which doesn't exist now".
Also, Safari 7.0 starts to come up, then quits. Only pace it worked was in "Recovery" mode.
Likewise when I want to print to a PDF file, "Preview" starts, then quits. It seems to run on it's own!
There may be "200" new and better features, but I haven't got to them yet!
I wanted to keep Mountain Lion, but wasn't given that choice on one of my two external drives, because they both were treated like backup drives!!
Any advice is deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
Glenn Welker
crashed while writing up this post!
While writing up this post, my machine crashed!
Apart from issues with Skype and Google+ hangouts, in terms of visibility of camera, the contents of my browser seem to be filling with rubbish. See image attached.
Any ideas?
