I'll keep my Mac if there are no major issues.

Me too. Seeing as I didnt pay for this one though i have no problem putting out a couple hundred... only if its a decent upgrade though, and not just a speed bump. (New graphics card at the very least)

I just bought the mid-2010 MBP model, mostly because my needs are immediate and I cannot wait. I plan on keeping this for a few years at the minimum, provided there's no major issues with this puppy.

I'm getting the current model at the end of December. I won't be interested in the next model, I still need the OD though in future I know I won't need it. I can't see what they will be offering in terms of more if it does go to SSD, the price for a similar capacity memory would be far higher, and if they didn't go SSD then I'm sure the base model would only have 320GB, not that I'm botherd as I'll everything off a external HD in anyway.

Also if the design does go the way of the Air then I for one won't really like it. At the pad end of the air it just feels a little thin and light weight, it somehow feels diffferent to a MBP.

Interesting perspective.

Many people complain about the sharp edges of the MBP, and I think the tapered design is apple's attempt to address that issue. I think they went with the wedge design to cut down on materials being used and weight.

I'm not sure if apple will embrace that design for the MBPs, mostly because they'll need some differences in the product line, so the MBA won't cannibalize mbp sales.

To be fair I've not had either of them on my lap, but even in store just simply clikcing the mouse/pad, it feels like my finger will just punch hole on the air or it will unbalance, it's a weird feeling. The MBP feels more sturdy to me.

I currently have 2010 15" 2.4 i5.

I'll likely upgrade depending on what the 13" specs look like.
I want to go back to the 13" just for portability, since I just got a new job and am taking my laptop to work more and more (and plugging it into an external monitor). I just don't want to give up any of my current machines power.

I will not sell this off if the next 13" is not up to par (or close enough) with my current machine.
I don't want to go backwards on speed etc.

i have a late '08 first gen unibody at 2.8ghz. i use it quite heavily for motion graphics/animation/editing. we have some beefy mac pros at work for rendering, but i love the portability of being able to do all the design work on my laptop.

i definitely find i am pushing my current hardware to its limits (especially the 4gb ram limit!), but i have no idea how noticeable an improvement the current i7's or the upcoming sandy bridge will be in real world usage.

are there any similar content creators out there who have can speak to the improvements in notebook speeds over the past 2 years? i don't think it'd be worth an upgrade if we're talking 20% or so faster, but if they're say twice as fast, or able to easily run after effects and photoshop without grinding the system to a halt... well... then we'd be talkin! :p

I have a mid 2010 MBP high-spec. If the new version had a really whip-ass video card, and maybe an SSD standard, I might change. Ive been really happy with mine, I did the 4 to8 gig memory upgrade through OWC, and swapped the standard 500 gig drive for the Momentus XT, and I am 100% happy.

Ive been in the PC world for 20 plus years, I use Parallels for my PC apps, and I havent missed a beat.

Again, unless the new one is totally amazing, and not an incremental update, ill stay where I am. :D:D

+1

This is actually my first post with it! Which reminds me...I need to update the sig.

Sell mine.. I got 101.00 off when i bought it on BF. So I'm not going to be losing out on much. I will sell it about a few weeks prior or so. Then I will use the money to purchase a new one.
