iPod touch Custom carrier image and slide to open text

For the .png files, Photoshop is the easiest way (this is an expensive program though, if you buy it). Paint Shop Pro might be able to handle it, too. Both programs have a free trial period. Even if you do *gasp* torrent it, you are downloading a trial, it's legal. For the most part. This should be a link for the Photoshop trial.
Yeah i ended up just using customize, just open it about 5-15 times..(yeah i know) and once it opens correctly it will keep opening. However, rearranging the dock w/ customize doesn't work for me..any suggestions?

haha I didn't even notice, but as i said on the other I'd rather not edit the .plist.. i don't want to go through all of that I will just wait until they come out with a compatible version..
Alas, not yet. Customize only has partial functionality on 1.1.1.
The site states as much and promises to have a fully working version soon.

You can have your own PNG as your carrier and your own text where it should say "slide to open" see here
To change the carrier update:
/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/FSO_CARRIER_IPOD.png
for the image on the home screen
and
/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/Default_CARRIER_IPOD.png
for the image when you are in an application
EDIT: the carrier png should be 20px high for it to look any good
To change the "slide to open" text download this file:
http://rapidshare.com/files/62428859/SpringBoard.strings.html
and search for "slide to open" replace it with up to 15 characters. Once that is done simply put it to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings
EDIT: while your in the file look for other strings such as "Sync in Progress" or "slide to cancel"

How do I open the .png?? Its does not let me open it with Photoshop nor Paint
I don't know if anyone here is familiar with Upright Citizens Brigade (just bought it on DVD last week). Anyways... it's a funny sketch comedy show that aired on Comedy Central in 1998... Well, I changed my slider words to reflect a skit on that show.

how do you snap screenshot of your unlock and poweroff screen? i'm using Dock and i can't do that.

For those who want to edit the original image files, you'll need to convert them using FixPng.

okay, so i did this, and i killed my ipod, nothing i couldn't fix though, restored it, and tried again, and the same thing happened..... what did i do wrong?

Happy to report i killed it. again. i followed the instructions word for word, and its just chilling on the apple logo.... i even raplaced the file via SSH and it dosent work... time to restore again....

Sorry to bring back up and old thread, but thought it would be better than starting a new one.
Just wondering if anyone knows any way to edit the springboard.string file using windows... im using 1.1.4 on my touch and customize.app isn't really supported. I can get to and access the file, just need a way i can open it.

now do you have to jailbreak your iPod cause I dont want to.... And what program do I use to get in to the iPod on the computer to change those???
