Not sure why any of you would knock this guy? Only explanation is jealousy. Good for him that he can afford to go and spend that kind of money- if I could, I would do the same thing..

Dont understand all the hate..

No big deal. I believe the savings in doing it yourself were over stated.

I ordered a couple hours ago and did get confirmation but not any shipping data.

I ordered a 2.3 15 anti glare with 8gbs of ram which i thought 200 dollars was not worth going 3rd party. Hard Drive i just ordered a 500gb 7200 which i will rip out and replace with my 2 OWC 200gb Extreme Drives running Raid 0 so I will be ripping out the optical as well. I bought this for Quad cores mainly for processing Raw files.

I just ordered the 15" base model a few hours ago with High-Res Antiglare and upgraded the HD to a 7200 RPM one. I've got enough hard drives so figured I'd let them do it. However, I'll upgrade the RAM on my own. Order confirmed with an estimated delivery date of March 2-8.

ordered 15" 2.0ghz w/ hi res antiglare @ 730am ET yesterday.

Still "has not shipped". Feb 28-mar 4.

Man you got ripped off for that RAM and SSD.

4,000 dollar computer . Would have cost you >1000 bucks for the SSD and >100 bucks for the ram if you just bought it from a 3rd party and did it yourself.

This.

buying an after market ssd/ram is pretty easy/fast and installing them is even faster.

ihow much is 15 minutes worth too you? hopefully its worth the extra 1100 you spent.

Ordered on the 24th, "not yet shipped too". Saw on here dude, got shipping notice ETA 3/3. Here's to hoping soon!

Edit: the guy/gal above. Adam Rock his shipped

Edit: prepared for shipping now.

Link this SSD you're saying he should've bought. The cheapest I could find was $1300. This would've been another $200 in addition to what he spent.

After reading a couple other threads, I actually went in cancelled my original order and submitted an upgraded order. I originally was getting the base 15 + hi-res screen + 500 GB 7200 RPM HD. I now am getting the mid-15" + hi-res screen + 500 GB 7200 RPM HD, but I also get the 2.2 CPU and the 6750M for only about $200 more (the 7200 RPM drive is "included" in the price of the mid-15" as opposed to having to pay an additional $90 upgrade for the base-15"). Again, I got the order acknowledgment with a delivery timeframe of March 2-8.

I wish he did pay $1000 extra because that would mean that there's a $100 512GB SSD out there. And I'd buy it. But really, what apple is charging for SSDs is actually pretty reasonable.

I got 500gb 7200, 2.3GHz i7 and hi-res anti-glare 15"

Not yet shipped
Ships: 1 - 3 business days
Delivers: Feb 28 - Mar 4

Let's all hope we get our MBPs soon. :D

Apparently you've failed to check prices on top of the line ram & SSD's. It doesn't even come close to your $1100 quote.

Just ordered a new 17" AG with the 128gb SSD and 8Gb RAM.

Initially I was thinking of getting the base AG and using my existing 80Gb x25-m and buy the ram from macsales for ~$125 instead of $200.

In the past I did open heart surgery on multiple mpbs going as far as removing the panel from one.

Is just that this time I felt like I wanted to get a machine that I wont have to open up for any reason.

The cost of it is $75 more for the ram. But now if I go to the apple store for any problem they can't tell me that it is because of the third party ram that I installed or have to put back the original HDD so that I don't run a chance of voiding the warranty.

Also 80gb was kind of small and I would have upgraded to a 128Gb anyway (256Gb is still expensive). $100 for upgrading to a 128ssd seems about right and I don't run into the chance of having issues with the laptop freezing when coming out to sleep or any of the other issues some people have with Vertex 2 and OWC SSDs (and yes I know they run just fine for some people) and also know that the apple ssd will not be as fast as those but I'm sure it will be fast enough for non benchmark usage.

Ditto. I had intended to purchase a OWC SSD & RAM upgrade separately, but when I could get it from Apple speced the way I wanted for less that I intended to spend I went with it. No need to swap my ram or SSD should I ever need to get it serviced, it's all covered under the same warranty by the same company. The $75-80 I could have saved on the RAM just didn't seem like such a big deal.

I still think the $90 upgrade for Apple SSD is a good deal for the 2.2ghz. That is what I did. I have a OCW SSD in my Sony and I plan to swap it out and give the Sony to a family member. I already have 3 externals. Now I went with OWC to get 8gb ram. Apple was asking way to much.

I just bought it stock.

It's not a money issue, I just want to wait for a Vertex 3 SSD which should go on sale in a couple weeks.

Ram is easy.

this way, I don't wait around on Apple ;)

I paid the $18 for 2-3 day shipping on Thursday and it told me to expect delivery anywhere between Feb 28 and March 4th.
