I ordered a 17" with SSD and RAM upgrade on thursday about 10:30 and mine has shipped and have a delivery of march 2nd.

Apple original SSD vs. OWC SSD

Man you got ripped off for that RAM and SSD.

I wouldn't call the Apple 512GB SSD a rip off. The upgrade from the low cost 5400 rpm model cost you 1100$. Sure that is still much less expensive than the OWC 480GB Mercury Extreme Pro SSD, which sells for 1580$.

I have decided to go for a 512GB Apple SSD for my custom built 2011 MBP 15", 8GB RAM, Core i7 2.3GHz.

The OWC is probably a bit faster than Apple's stock 512GB MBP 2011 SSD, but I have not seen any benchmark comparisons on that.

I upgraded a month ago the 128GB stock SSD in my mid 2009 MacBook Air (rev C) with an OWC 240GB Aura Pro MBA SDD. I did that because i needed more storage space and I wanted it also to be faster as I also use Windows under Parallels VM.

I must say that I am extremely happy with my upgraded SSD in my MBA. The OWC SSD is significantly better performing than the Stock Apple SSD. See Xbench results below:

Keep in mind that OWC is current state of the art technology compared to the 2009 Apple stock SSD. So I would not expect the same performance difference between Apple's current 2011 MBP SSD and the current OWC Mercury Pro.

I am looking forward to your benchmark results with SSD's in MBP 2011.

Lame excuse. My time is not free as well. I have to fight for free time. But I still fit in ways to save money and this would have been one I fit in.

Since you're so concerned about saving money, another way to save is to get a PC computer with the same specs! Oh, but you wanted a premier computer and decided to spend extra money with Apple. BUT it's not okay for the OP to do the same?

Since it's not your money...move along!

Went from "Not yet shipped" to "prepared for shipment" Sunday morning and to "Shipped" overnight Sunday/into Monday.

I ordered a 17" 2.3 i7 8GB RAM 500GB 7200 with HighRes Anti-glare on Thursday around 2:00pm EST, and it hasn't shipped yet. Anyone else order Thursday and not have it ship yet?

Edit: It has a delivery time frame of February 28th to March 4th. I chose the 2-3 Day Shipping option for the $18 extra.

Hey guys, recent reader of MacRumors and as a soon-to-be purchaser of my first Macbook Pro I just created an account to ask this.

What shipping speed did you guys choose? Would paying the extra $18 dollars really make a difference? I see that some of the posters chose standard shipping and it seemed like it will be arriving pretty fast so I just wanted to hear your inputs.

Thanks!

I paid the $18 extra. I would've paid more if it would've shown up even faster. I ordered a 15" base w/ hi-res glossy 3 to 3.5 hours after they were released (12:36PM EST on 2/24/2011), and I got it this morning at 9:30AM EST.

I ordered the same specs BTO Feb 28 and just today it now says Prepared for Shipment.
