I got my phone today and decided to make a custom tone.
It's absolutely awful quality, there is a massive difference between ringtone and text tone.

Either, it was worse before or it's not fixed?
I struggle to believe it was worse than this.

Just to confirm I'm running the latest firmware 5.1.1

Since I updated to 5.1.1 I forgot about it and you reminded me. ****! This ****** quality is only on iPhone 4S, but iPhone 4. Seriously... I hope iPhone 5 will fix it...

My custom tones sound awesome on the 4s. I converted mp3 file to m4r and s high bit rate and used ifunbox to put them on the phone.

iOS 6 update busted it again.

I've updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 6 and the ringtone sound quality has again been degraded. Same as before, if I use the tone as an alert it sounds as it should.

I was just comparing the same quality ringtone and a mp3 from music library on my iPhone 5 (64GB). And I couldn't hear the difference!

I now did some more testing and I can confirm the ringtone is the same quality as the tune from music library.
