The Iron Throne
Is this a feature? It's one of the biggest reasons I jailbroke my iPhone. Might seem dumb to some, but I really like personalizing my ringtones/sms tones. I've been doing it since I first got a cell phone like 10 years ago - seems like such a standard feature, it's annoying I have to JB to get it.

Everyone in the world has the tri-tone sms sound. Thanks if anyone knows.

Thanks for the information, guys, much appreciated.

And ARGH! Seriously? I can't even come up with a logical explanation for why they'd keep leaving this out. FFS it's 2010 - every piece of crap prepaid phone on the planet can change sms tones.

Guess I'll be JB'ing once again - and making sure I take advantage of the free apps.

It bothers me too...at least add a few new default sounds! The ones that are available are so tired if they didn't already suck to begin with. A bell...really?

It's for this reason alone I'll consdier jailbreaking. This is the only feature I've ever complained about.

Yeah, no custom or new SMS tones. Pretty sad really. How hard can it be to add this feature?

Same here. I need an attention getter. Something to wake me up at night. It was nice when they finally added multiple notifications until you checked it (3). It was a start.

I'm pretty surprised they didn't at least add a few new sounds...

Not a deal breaker for me or anything but I empathize with everyones frustration.

It's so when you are with a group of friends and the SMS tone goes off, and you check your iPhones, the one friend without and iPhone feels left out until they go buy one. It's a marketing ploy...

This is true. Was at a bar a couple weeks ago, someone had their iPhone playing through the speaker system and they got a text. Saw quite a few people take their phones out of their pockets to check. My friend and I got a good laugh out of it, we have witnessed this on several occasions at the same bar.

And then there was this one guy who fell for it, took it out of his pocket and dropped it on the floor. Think I saw him a couple weeks later on the news, something about getting fired for dropping his phone...

+1 it's why I had my 3G jailbroken for awhile.

It will be feature on iOS 14, but it won't be for iOS 4. We just got multi-tasking in. We need to rest a little before we add a revolutionary feature like custom SMS/MMS ringtone. Thanks.

Any chance there's a jailbreak app to blink the front camera light when there's alerts/notifications?

Yep, this has never made any sense to me. It seems like it's a no brainer for Apple. For all you Textfree Unlimited people out there though, you get some different tones which are still pretty cheesy. Still can't create your own either.

loll.

I have no clue why they haven't given us more options. It's been years.

It really is unusual... I can't think of any other phones that don't allow you to change your ringtones from the preinstalled defaults. We're allowed to make our own ringtones and apple does not care about that- how come not text tones? Kind of makes my head hurt when I think about it.
