Hi,

I am An Employee for an Apple Store, I can only give certain information, however I was briefed This morning About the New 3G iPhone release. What i can say is alot of of my fellow employees as well as I were Very Upset With the New Plans for the iPhone. management made no effort in talking about the subsidy pricing. And I feel the public is being left out in the dark about the "fine Print".

I am Very Dissapointed in the way Apple/ATT are handling this. Looks like they feel if they can get you into the store and tell you the bad news at checkout, you will buy anyways because your already so excited.

Than the customer blows up, and the specialist takes the blow from the customer.

Friday may be...a very bad day.
I'm afraid I don't believe you're legit. Please accept my apologies if I'm wrong...

Apple employees are not allowed to participate in online Mac discussion forums. If they do, they could very well lose their job. With all do respect, I don't think you're an Apple Employee. If you were, you'd be aware of this rule set forth by Apple Inc.

Ah you beat me to it.

"While the iPhone 3G Voice and Data Packages allow you to use this device to its fullest and offer savings over separate voice and data plans, they are not the only options available to you. Other pricing options are available." -rogers

"If you are an existing customer, you may keep your existing voice service plan and add a separate data plan" - rogers

What the above means is that U can use any plan even the existing plan for iphone.

I went to a rogers location and found out this:
1) I can add 10-15$ on my current plan w/ 400min, text, etc and get A ton of data and get iphone or

2) USE ANY PLAN WITH THE ROGERS IPHONE. As low as 30$/month. And Blackberry, smartphone or even a simple voice plan will work.

No one reads the fine print on rogers.com but it clearly states that we do NOT have to pay what has been posted.

how much data for $10-15?

Good luck using it there. I hear that they use CDMA in Korea.
Do yourself a favour and Google "CDMA" "cellphone network Korea" and "GSM".
I stand corrected, they are now 3G 2100Mhz. You might still have to unlock it yourself first.

Oh believe me friend, I've done the research. :)

I was hoping to get a 1st gen iPhone, since it will be cheaper, but since the 1st gen iPhone was GSM, I was screwed into waiting. I really hope my nearby Rogers store has enough in stock.

where abouts in southern ontario are you? if you dont mind me asking :p

Wait no longer, my friend!

Okay, I'm not sure what your needs are so it's a bit hard to fill them exactly. But if you want next generation technology and a quality build then you'd have to start with the Nokia N Series.

Nokia N95 - 3G, 8Gb, 5mp camera, video calling, video recording, GPS, open platform, wifi, web browsing, etc etc.

Nokia N96 - the same as above, but with 16Gb and mobile TV functions.

There's also the Samsung Omnia which has been announced: 16Gb, expandable to 32Gb, 5mp camera with autofocus and image stabilisation, DivX capable, video recording, touch screen, FM Radio, MP3 AAC WMA OGG playback, bluetooth stereo, GPS, etc etc...
All those features sound nice and all but you will not get any of those features on a locked phone from any provider in North America. It all sounds wonderful on paper but as I discovered with the Krzr I bought from Rogers, you never get what you think you are paying for.

What's revolutionary about the iPhone is that you get the same features regardless your carrier/country and none of the bloatware that ties you into their ringtone download services.

Bitch bitch bitch.

AT&Ts prices aren't that bad. I think they presented them poorly the other day (I got pissed because I didn't realize it was for 2 lines of iphone data service, I only need 1).

Canada on the other hand is getting hosed. Granted I only use about 75MB/mo of data, so a 100 or even 300MB cap might not be an issue, what they need to ensure is that the iphone and network can easily keep track of how much data transfer is happening so that people can clearly see where they're at. Yea the prices might suck, but transparency is much more important, so you dont spring a huge bill on them after the first month (like I did with Prodigy back in 1993).

No. Not much reality at all. Just a lot of sour grapes newbie blather.

Care to back up your comment? Clearly identify and walk me through what parts of my post were false and according to your logic 'random blather'. Otherwise, I will just disregard you unfounded post as 'worthless uniformed follow the herd blather'. 'Newbie'. Nice choice of words. I guess you missed the part where I indicated that I purchased a mac product back in 07'. Not to mention have been a long standing owner of ipods for some time as well as other mac products.
As for being 'sour'. That's something I definitely am not as I can afford to actually purchase the product....
I purchased a 17" MBP w/ upgrade for ~3.4k in cash and felt it was a little overpriced. I did so because I could afford it and i was paying for what I wanted and not something I didn't that was sneaked in and packaged in... Nor was I forced to buy anything I didn't want.

If anyone asked me about my purchase I would say what the truth was and indicate my knowledge of knowing that I bought a slightly overpriced product. I am cool with anyone who speaks on the issues w/ truth. However, what I have been seeing on this thread are a bunch of people denying the overpriced nature of the product and making excuses as to why it is that way... For anyone who brings light to the situation, these people are telling them to buy the phone or ****... If anything, I would say that these people are sour.... They are sour that they are buying an overpriced product and are having their experience ruined by people who are making them aware of the fact.

I look forward to more information you can provide beyond your sentence of blather...

You might want to have that shift key looked at.

The iPhone has had since inception a screen in the preferences for viewing your data transfer in the current month. The data cap is 400 for the cheapest plan and goes up from there with other plans. The 300MB cap was on the Blackberry plan.

I just took a look at the Telus (CDMA) plans and while they do appear to offer a unlimited data plan, the fine print appears to bar certain types of devices and certain types of traffic and the Telus (CDMA) voice plans are in most cases worse for minutes compared with what I have right now with Rogers.

Given the lack of restrictions on the data plan from Rogers, it is not a horrible as some of the Telus and Bell employees posting here are trying to make it sound. I've been a Telus customer before and they sucked before and still suck.

Nothing has changed. It is still GSM. They might have added some 3G frequencies for UMTS/HSDPA. Don't be confused by the fact that W-CDMA is used by 3G GSM networks. It is still not compatible with CDMA 2000 networks.

A nice side effect of the added 3G support is compatibility with some of the 3G FOMA networks in Asian countries like Japan and Korea but you might still have to unlock your iPhone before you can use it with a SIM from another country.

You have the option of cancelling and paying the 400 dollar cancellation fee.

Now, we look at the picture of unsubsidized iphone $699 and $799. Excuse me but that is an absolutely rip off yet again.

Now I think your justification for buying or not buying a phone are up to you. I just thought I would post a link that shows some other unlocked smartphone prices. It is up to you to decide if they are in the same price class or not as the iphone.

Now the rest of your rant looked to be a lot of opinion about credit and while I may agree with you to a point, I don't know what you hope to accomplish on this board.

Pretty much every time Apple releases something new, there is an uproar from a certain group of people. It's just par for the course.

Would I like a cheap iPhone with free service? Sure! But it's just not how the world works.

+1
I remember when someone bragged about telling their local media that cancelling a contract with Rogers would cost 7 thousand dollars all based on a misprint on the English version of the terms and conditions posted online.

It seemed obvious to me that they meant to a maximum of 400 dollars given that other plans had a similar cancellation fee. Someone confirmed that the french version said 100 per month remaining to a maximum of 400 dollars.
I would consider such behaviour to be irresponsible.

You didn't give me much to go on - I didn't realise you required a locked phone. I tend to avoid those, because I like to be able to buy a local prepay SIM whenever I travel to other countries to save on roaming charges, and, like you, I don't like any carrier-specific firmware on my phones.

You can always buy unlocked quad band phones on eBay, or if you are visiting the UK anytime soon there is the Carphone Warehouse who sell unlocked phones with a £10 prepay SIM. I bought my current phone that way - straight off the 747 at Heathrow, on the train into London and then into the nearest Carphone Warehouse - still carrying all my luggage! Ahh good times... :)
