In some markets cutting cable is no cheaper once you try getting an internet package on its own.
That's the problem: most ISPs also offer TV packages, so they can price it so going internet-only with Hulu/Sling/HBO Go etc. is more expensive for less content.
I think netflix is #1 at the moment. Personally I just use HBO now and netflix and thats more than enough. My parents have cable to use their login to watch sports events. There should be an option in the future to watch sports events for cord cutters but I doubt that'll happen because thats the only thing cable companies have left. I need my tennis and soccer.I don't disagree with you. I think I'm getting a break because I've got my internet packaged with a home security system. You might be able to catch a packaging break on internet if getting it though a cable company by packaging it with their internet phone service.
Of interest I think the tide is turning. With the options that are available online for streaming, this will put significant pressure on cable companies to change with the tide. My primary complaint is having large packages forced on me when in reality I don't watch that many channels.
There's Sling, Vue, and now Dish is offering the Skinny bundle, which can include sports for $45/mo. Not great, but better than $80/mo for 100 channels one doesn't watch.I think netflix is #1 at the moment. Personally I just use HBO now and netflix and thats more than enough. Great information @Huntn. Thanks for sharing this journey with others who could benefit. I've thought of cord cutting for a while, but my family's love for sports makes it hard.
that sucks, I love TWDAMC? It's like pulling teeth. They have a streaming package, but it requires you to have access to their channel through your TV provider.
It's so annoying. Streaming taking over cable and satellite is all but an inevitability by this point, yet you still have these occasional networks that won't budge unless they're dragged kicking and screaming into the future.
link to DVR app please.BTW, for OTA-ers, the HDHomerun is a _super_ slick device that connects to your antenna, then provides 2 tuners (depending on model), that stream the OTA signal into your home network. So then you can have a single antenna connection that can be viewed on more than one device (without having to run antenna cable), and that includes devices without a tuner! Apple TV 4, other streaming devices, tablets, phones, there's even a DVR app so you can use your computer to record shows then share them back out across the network.
About $89 on Amazon.

there is an app for the appleTv4 that I just saw, I am going to try it that way. After using SlingTV for a week, I'll report it works great, but it's customer service leaves much to be desired, not that they don't help, but the inefficient means they offer customer support about your questions. After you locate the place to send them a help request, you'll discover there is no troubleshooting web portal customer service ticket system and there is no way to talk to them on the phone. Guess that saves money. 🙄
When you submit a question, you'll see a message that says "watch your in basket", no not any basket in their website, but your email in-basket. About 6-12 hrs later you'll get an response. The first one of these I got I was irritated because while they told me they were working diligently to answer my question, they did not bother to answer the question I had sent them, such as how to you edit your MyTV list? The answer btw is to scroll the list to the far far far right and you'll see an edit button.
PS, if you plan on paying up front 3 months for either a Roku or an Apple TV (discounted price), do that before you sign up for the one week trial. However, even during or after the trail, you can still take advantage of the offer, by emailing them and offering to pay for 3 months in advance, and they will make it happen.

Yeah, I've recently learned about SlingTV.
There is one thing that's kept me from cutting the cord completely. I've got my $80 a month Dish subscription that I barely use anymore. About 98% of my TV watching is done through Netflix or Amazon. But I still do watch the local channels for news and whatnot, which I can seemingly only get through satellite.
I tried out a digital antenna a couple months back, and I expected to be able to get all the local channels. But...NOPE. What I got were about a dozen Spanish Catholic channels. That'd be alright if I spoke Spanish, or were Catholic, but I'm not. To me, it looks like a bunch of people being extra serious, while sounding like they're having a lot of fun.
there are no apps for the 3rd gen, just 4th gen. I am going to upgrade my 4th get to the 64 GB model. son just gave it to me last week so I can still return itI have an Apple TV 3rd generation and it's not there. Just ordered a 4th gen version.

that came bundled IIRC .I always considered Netflix an app, and it's there on my Apple TV. ? Maybe it's just limited or maybe Netflix is different than something like Sling TV? I had an older Roku before this one and there was a reason I upgraded it, some app it could not do, but I forget which one.
I've had no problem using the Netflix app on more than one device, except that it will only let you view on one device at a time. That's for a normal account-- don't know about others.I always considered Netflix an app, and it's there on my Apple TV. ? My account allows for two simultaneous streams, and I think it's something like $10/mo.I've had no problem using the Netflix app on more than one device, except that it will only let you view on one device at a time. That's for a normal account-- don't know about others.
Do you think it was topography and/or your location, or the antenna?Yeah, I've recently learned about SlingTV.
